I am loving the size and feel of the new Navitimer.

there is def a more refined feel than the SOH which is a huge chunk of metal.

I do have one questione tho....

In the video review there is a comment about the movement being one of the noisier ones. While wearing it, I can occasionally feel the mechanism winding up the watch. It isnt the freewheeling sound as much as it is a feeling.

Is this the watch transfering the charge or something similar. I dont mind it, just curious as to what is going on when I feel this "pulse"

Pics are coming tonight.

The noise is the movement of the rotor and it's perfectly normal.

Are you talking about the rotor that winds the watch?

The movement I feel continues after I keep the watch still, and it only happens sporatically

Thanks for the help ROff

The rotor will keep rotating after you stop moving due to inertia, it will also move with very slight movement. And yes, the only rotor in it is the one that winds it.

Navitimer movement is based on the Valjoux 7750, and As Roff said, it is known to be noisy. It's called the "Valjoux Wobble"

The 7750 only winds in one direction, so it essentially free wheels when the other direction. When it gets that perfect combination of stored up energy and a flick of the wrist in the non-winding direction, it starts to spin like crazy, which is what you are feeling and hearing.

EDIT: just re-read and noticed that you said it isnt the free-wheeling that youre talking about

I think it is the freewheeling. I just wasn't expecting a small twist of the wrist to send it moving so much.

I think being able to feel the motion is sort of interesting and makes the watch feel alive. Just a newbie observation.

A lot of people that own that love this. At firt When I heard it in someones watch I thought it made it feel/sound cheap. I still do sometimes. However, I buy watches for me so when I can feel and hear it I love it. I have had other people hear it in meetings at work. Kind of funny. They just dont get it :poke:

On a similar note, are watches that wind in both directions considered to be more precise, crafted, etc?

Not really.

It's a harder piece of engineering, but not really a quality differentiator.
