Hey, I am going on vacation soon and I want a watch that I can bring that I dont have to worry about. Can anyone give me some information or opinions on the piece? Also, where would be the best place to buy one of these from?

thanks.

I assume you're talking about the Seiko Orange Monster here? I had the black dial version a while back, and it certainly was a very hardy watch. It's got a very simple movement with not even a hacking mechanism, but for a beater, simplicity is a good thing! The problem I found was that gained a stupid amount of time (although a regulation would've probably fixed it), but that's probably not too surprising given that the assembly is entirely automated.

I bought mine brand new on eBay for pretty good money, so apart from that I cant help you with where to buy one.

I second that on the Seiko's, particularly the 6309 automatic movement in the 7040 or 7049 case, which is readily available off ebay (usually from the phillipines), I brought one in ($105 US) it had a new band and a new crystal, had my watch service guy clean it and pressure test it for diving ($45), ran great (+3/5 sec. per day) and was utterly reliable.

Excellent beater watch.

I've had an Orange Monster for a couple of years and have nothing but praise for it.

eBay is your best source.

I acquired one recently in a private sale. I love it, it's simple, unpretentious and indestructable. I've already had more comments on this one than any other I own, probably due to the bright orange dial

If not ebay then check out Amazon and also the sales forum at watchuseek, there's generally a few on sale pretty much all the time. Make sure you do your homework though if you choose to go the private sale route.

Good luck!

I purchased an Orange Monster a few months ago and found the best price on Ebay. Be patient and set your max bid price. There are several for sale on Ebay and I ended up only paying around $130.
One thing to bear in mind is if you are used to a larger (43mm+) watch this watch will feel small. I like the watch but it is small.

Very, very good watch for the money. Cheap, tough, will take anything you throw at it.

I had one until recently. Got mine in Tokyo but they're readily available on ebay and, as Tim says, Amazon and sales forums.

Check out "Deep Blue" diver watches. Great little watches for the money and the quailty is very good.

Rick, although those Are very nice pieces I think I would have to go for a helson shark diver before the deep blue. Something about that mesh bracelet and the full Luke bezel that gets me.

Also, does anyone have
on where to get a get a good divers strap for the om?

I have seen those straps of that material also. Look like a nice happy medium between rubber (sporty) and leather (dressy)...No idea where to get them though sorry.

I think those straps are kevlar. A quick search for that on eBay should throw a few up.
