Hi All,

I have saved for my next watch and thought it would be nice to commemorate my 30th Birthday coming up soon.

I know that this is a Breitling forum and I might be subject to a few subjective opinions..... However there has been much love shown on here for the new style ROLEX models. I can only comment on my opinion and that is because of the re design and ceramic bezel for the GMT IIc / Deep sea dweller.

Here is my dilemma.....

Breitling Navitimer 125e on air racer (I have a new brown calf leather with deployment and an ocean racer rubber with deployment that I wear with my B-2) I just fell in love with the 43mm size and the fact that it has a simplified dial which is a contrast to the busy B-2 dial. It also feels so good!!!! Solid. Unique trap which is real nice with the brushed finish. Is it too dressy for me....... not quite sure really. But is just a stunning piece!!!!

Or

ROLEX GMT IIc

I do travel a LOT which is why I am drawn to the GMT. You can also dress it up and down which suits my lifestyle. It would also retain its value pretty well and will probably increase in value. It is also an absolute solid piece of engineering which I am a sucker for. The fact that the watch doesn't stop ticking when you change the hours forward and back is really nice too. I really like the date magnifier as well which is strange as I used to hate it when I was younger.... Must be growing up.

The rolex would set me back around a 1000GBP more which is a chunk.... However this is something I want to wear daily and when spending this much I just want to get something I will be happy and comfortable to live with.

Does anyone here who has a navi of sort and a rolex GMT IIc? Could you share experiences between the two?

Opinions are obviously subjective, but if it were me, right now, id go with the GMT. I like it enough that its been on my mind recently with all the talk about it. I might just be in the market for one soon as well.

Rolex GMT without a doubt in my mind.

I am a HUGE Rolex fan and lately a bigger Breitling fan...But that GMT II is a stunner.

The GMT II will be mine in about 5 weeks if my first child cooperates and comes on time!! Right now, the GMT is sitting in my AD's safe...ready and waiting for me!

You're comparing two different watches. It would be fairer to compare a Rolex GMT with a Breitling Colt GMT/GMT+.
Colt GMT 40.5mm, WR 500m
GMT Master II 40mm, WR 100m

I prefer more aesthetically the Colt GMT.

I would usually agree, but Rolex's new offerings are much more competitive than the old stuff. That UN is not an in-house watch, and the Rolex is finished as well, if not better. Compare the UN to the old Sub and im with you, but the updated models from Rolex are as good as anything else out there. Oh, and the UN is a bit more expensive too.

true that....but I think a lot of people buy a Rolex simply because they want everyone else to know they have a Rolex and that reason only. There are sooo many watches out there that are better in terms of value, asthetics, etc. but the regular Joe on the street will recognize the Rolex and therefore people want it for it's recognition.

The op is considering a Breitling so having an in house movement will not be his deciding point.

"Better asthetics" and "better value" I think are complete opinions not facts. Its all in the eye of the beholder.

And don't you think that the B01 is overrated?
How much do you think it will cost the next watch with B01 movement (The Navitimer)?

If there will be an Aeromarine model with an in house movement, I'll seriously consider a Rolex Deep Sea if I need/want to buy another high end watch and there's not a hugh difference of price.

I firmly believed that. But when I got the GMT Master IIc with the different and new ceramic bezel insert and especially the new "heavy" bracelet I couldn't resist. And a funny thing happened - over the course of a week it became increasingly hard for me to take off - it grew more comfortable as I grew more aprreciative of the fit and finish. And it wasn't the "people appeal" of wearing a Rolex - if anything that does still bug me a bit. One of the nice things about Breitlings is that they just look great and only Bretiling guys seem to know what brand you are wearing, whereas Rolex is known by everyone.

So that darn watch had everything, including my own preconceived notions, going against it. And that new version Rolex overcame them all. Damn Rolex! Interferring with my core resentments!! I hate it when that happens.

I think we all know you buy watches for yourself. But I think a lot of people need a big eye opening to see the wonderful world of watches. To me, Rolex is not all it's percieved and made out to be. The world does not start and stop around them. They are way to cliche for me..besides being too small but the size is pure opinoin on my part.

I was always the guy who would :yeahthat . But having worn one a few days over the last 3 weeks, all I can say is there is a fit, finish, and feel to the GMT Master IIc at least - I have no real experience with other models - that is noticably different to me. I don't rule out it is just a good fit for my wrist. But it wears like it was made for me.

The only thing that bugs me just a bit is the "oh, is that a Rolex?" or similar comments.

Note I haven't said "better," just different. Pleasantly so.

I'm with Sharkman on this one. Although I'm primarily a Breitling freak, I purchased the GMTIIc and loved it. I wear it for me, no one else. It looks and feels great, and loses about 3 sec per month! No kidding.

I am forever loyal to Breitling, but this watch bears true consideration. Just my opinion.

Don
