I have noticed that this watch is owned by quite a few BS members and I figured some I would see what your opinions of the functionality of the SOH and SOHC models.

It is such an interesting peice in that it doesnt really fit into one category. I cant tell whether it is a sport divers watch, or a tough tool watch for all activities. The high polish makes me think sport, but the all black finish makes me think tool.

I have seen a few state that a mesh bracelet even puts this watch in the dress catagroy, but that discussion is for another day.

What are your thoughts?

With the Black Navitimer coming today, I am thinking the SOH will be my post work and weekend watch. Which I think is perfect for this awesome watch

I bought my SOHC to be all three! But I don't dive so it's not a tool in that vein. I wear it daily for my desk job and think it looks great, esp. in a suit or long sleeves. My least likely time to wear it is on weekends or with a short-sleeve shirt, at some point I will buy a casual divers watch for weekends and/or switch out to a leather band.

PS - because of your signature I checked out the Hamilton line - I like!

I think that it is one watch that can truely be used for anything.

Thanks. My Hamilton on brown croc is very understated and small compared to the B'Ling line-ups.

As an accountant, most expect me to keep it pretty conservative, and the Dodson does just that. Although it will probably get relegated to fil in duty when the black navi doesnt work

As for the SOH....I bought mine as a catch all also, but now I think I am leaning more towards the sport aspect. The polished case makes it dificult to imagine as a complete tool watch, but you would be hard pressed to find another watch as tough.

I don't think the SOH 46 fits neatly into any of those categories, although it does have some elements of each. It's missing one or two features it needs to be a hard-core dive watch, it's too shiny for a tool watch, and although it can be somewhat dressy it is nowhere near being a dress watch.

It's a fantastic watch and I'm not trying to take anything away from it, all I'm saying is that it seems to live in its own niche. If you specifically want a diver, there are better divers; if you specifically want a dress watch, there are better dress watches, etc etc.

What's it good at? Sitting on the wrist looking nice. And taking it to the South Pacific to go snorkelling, that's what I did with mine and it was great. :D

Yea, I kinda think of it as my "sport coat" watch. It does well in most all situations; dressed down with jeans and loafers, or dressed up for a night on the town.

I like the sports coat analogy.
