Hi everyone,

Don't know about you, but I get on a real guilt trip when i own too many watches. I live by the motto of one in, one out. I currently have four watches that I am using all the time, not including a cartier and citizen that I don't use.

HOW MANY WATCHES IS TOO MANY, REALISTICALLY!! AND How many watches do you own?

As long as you can afford them and it's not a case of bankrupting yourself to add to the collection I say as many as you like!

I have three right now, listed below. Would love more but I know where my current financial limits are.

I have 7 right now, including 4 Breitlings. The most watches I've ever owned at one time is 10, although I have bought (and sold) many more ovr the years.

Personally, while the WIS part of me would like to own hundreds, I actually feel that it'd be a waste if I owned more than 10 to 12 at the most. The reason is the same as if you buy 3 or 4 in one go - each one loses a bit of it's "specialness" by being overshadowed slightly by others. If I had 30 watches, the most I'd ever get to wear each one is (obviously!) once a month, and that for me is a waste. While I have nothing at all against anyone with a huge collection, I'd personally struggle to get the most of out a collection of say 60 or 70 pieces as the vast majority of them would be lucky to be on my wrist once a year.

As you may have seen in a couple of my other posts, I'm moving towards full in-house pieces, so 10 to 12 good quality watches with in-house movements will do me just fine.

Too embarrassed to even say, lol. 6 watch display boxes that each hold about 20 watches a piece, hmm, with many not able to fit into the boxes and laying around on night stands.

As the longtimers will attest, I don't reveal my collection, but I will say that 'too many' has to be a very personal decision. I have a number of pocket watches that I never wear, but that I can display and admire for their aesthetic and mechanical beauty. I also have some vintage wristwatches that aren't practical daily wearers, but I don't regret buying them for a second.

What all of my watches have in common is that they mean something to me - big or small. A time in my life, a person, an event, sometimes just remembering what I was doing when I first obtained the piece. That's a meaningful connection that I appreciate whenever I strap the watch on, even if it is only once in a while.

Here's how it started for me. When I was young and finally made enough to buy a nice watch I told myself, "This one watch will last me a lifetime". Within a couple months it turned into, "Five in rotation is the perfect amount as a collector". That idea lasted a year or two on a fairly strict one in one out method. Inevitably it turned into, "Ten let's me sample every style and brand comfortably, I'm set for life!". It just gets worse from here, but it is much easier to shed extra pieces you truly don't like anymore once you are in the double digit range.

I've been all over the map with the number I've had...currently I have 10, four of which are for sale. Not for sale, is one B SO, and the remaining five were gifts, and can never be sold. I've had as many as 20 (box holds 21), but my goal now is to sell off the four, keep one B (at a time), and cherish the gift watches, even tho they don't get worn often.

If you're asking about nice watches, then I have 1, my new Blackbird. But if you mean watches in general then I have 6 or 7, A TAG that's broken, a Movado which I never wear (too small) a Wenger which was my daily wearer back home, a G-Shock which is my work watch and a couple more that I can't remember what they are.

I used to own over 20 watches, many of which were very inexpensive. Over time, however, I sold them all off and used the money to purchase watches of a higher quality. I now own less than 10 and will keep it that way, only really wearing 5. I own a Steelfish, a TAG Link Chrono, an Omega Seamaster GMT, a Victorinox Ground Force Chrono, and a Casio Pathfinder. This seems to take care of me just fine and all are of exceptional quality for their price range.
