Are there references or web sites that list information for authenticating Breitling straps (leather and crocs), as well as buckles and deployants?

I've heard there are plenty of fake straps out there, just want to make sure I make an educated purchase.

Best bet is to post in the replica section here. Straps aren't that much more expensive from your AD.

It depends. Can you buy a croc strap from AD for $130?

If you can buy a Breitling croc online for $130 then I very much doubt that it's real.

I sold a Breitling croc strap on here a few months ago for $225 and that was basically giving it away. If you find one for less you should be very careful.

The golden rule is the fake croc straps have "Cuir" (leather) on the back rather than "Croco".

Never buy without a clear pic of the back of the strap.

Also, get a clear photo of the stitching. Authentic straps have perfectly straight stitching, most fakes that I've seen the stitching isn't perfectly aligned...don't use this as your only rule tho.

Crocs in the UK are about £380 and Cuirs £90 I think. Pays your monies..

It's not brand new though, but in great shape. Correction - I checked my records and it cost me $150, not $130 as previously stated, but still great deal.

MSRP is $480 for the croc strap in the US, damn that's a lot, I'll stick with a calf.

I love the look of croco and I have one on my 6.75, but the price is a real pain in the backside, especially considering that straps are essentially consumables as you will have to replace them at some point.

If you wear the same watch pretty regularly, a strap may last 2 years or so if you're lucky (perhaps 3 if you don't mind it looking a bit manky), so you can certainly get through the straps over the course of owning a watch. A couple of crocos and you've spent the same as buying a steel bracelet......... which should last indefinitely.

I think straps are like shoes......bear with me.

One pair of shoes last x months, but if you have two/three in rotation.....xxxxx

and Deployants last alot longer. Straps (whilst they do cost, last me 3/5 years Winter wear)

Your absolutely right that deployants make a strap last a lot longer, and a huge amount depends on how often you wear a watch with a strap - do you wear it everyday, or does it have a bit of "down time" for the sweat to evaporate adequately, etc. It also depends on climate - hot and sweaty and your strap won't last as long.

But either way I do find that croco straps are very steeply priced.
