I finished up a meeting at around 1:30pm yesterday on just another Wednesday, six hourslater I had been through an earhquake and a tornado!

There was an earthquake yesterday afternoon centred north of Ottawa - not that big (5.0 or 5.5 depending on the report), but a bit disconcerting for a part of the world that doesn't get many - especially if like me you were in a tall office tower.

I did my usual commute home and made it just in time for a funnel cloud to come by and touch down about five miles away as a tornado - the strength is still being assessed. There are occasional tornados in Ontario, but this one was a little too close for comfort. Sounds like only minor injuries, and our house made it through OK - probably lost some trees on the property, it was too dark to see this morning. We have no power, and likely won't get it back until this evening, and as we are rural that also means no water, but could have been a lot worse.

I just find it truly bizarre that two such uncommon events should happen within just a few hours.

Glad you're ok. Must be that pesky global warming.

Personaly I'd take it as a sign from the watch Gods that it's time to buy a new watch.

Im from Northwest Ohio a little south of Toledo. We had the same thing here. And to top it all off did you hear about our bad weather just about a month ago. It made Yahoo! News. National news etc. It was one of those days.

See what happens when the significant other tells you she wants a Panerai? Must be the universe telling you something

That's funny!

It was actually the other way around - as soon as she got earthquaked and tornadoed she suddenly decided that she needed a PAM - must be an equilibrium thing.

That's plain freaky.
An earthquake and a tornado on the same day?

Locusts and frogs can't be far away. Sooner or later you will let those French Canadians go.

My only experience of an earthquake was a couple of years ago. Only 4.7 but the whole house wobbled like a jelly. Fully expected it to come down on my head.

Wouldn't have liked to be in a high rise!

That is freaky - glad you're okay.

Reminds me of when I was in London and the terrorist attacks were occurring. I remember the story of a woman who was riding a tube that was blown up, walked off the tube and onto a bus that was blown up. Fortunatey she was untouched, which was sadly not the case for all involved. Obviously your experience was natural whereas this story was initiated by man but their are strong parallels. Strange world we live in.

Glad everything is fine...

THE END OF DAYS IS HERE

There were some strange occurrences in Chicago on the same day. This is a picture of the skies :

Image

There were funnel clouds spotted in the Chicago area and there was a pretty serious green-tinge to the sky. As I am originally from the East Coast, I've never heard a tornado siren before so I was pretty confused for a while there. This stuff is spooky!

Earthquakes arent too uncommon here. I find that with every year that passes I get exponentially more scared. When I was young they were interesting, now they are down right terrifying. I live on a hill side too :wowzers The last one we had a few months ago I leterally jumped out of bed and stood frozen in the middle of my bedroom waiting to die. lol.. I dont know if im just getting older or just becoming a bigger wuss :geek: Probably both.

Glad that everyone in your family is OK Roff. :)

But depending on where you live, earthquakes (or tornadoes for that matter) are not so uncommon. My parents live in Greece and they had their share of earthquakes during recent years, although the one they're currently going through is of a higher scale but with no human victims ... so far

But who cares, right? :(
