WOW! How absurdly hideous. Although, if they have that many, then someone is buying them. There are so many foreigners passing through that town, I can see a Saudi oil man buying one for everyone in his traveling party.....

As coincidence has it, I am staying there next weekend, and simply have to see this gaudiness for myself. I'll stop on the way back from the pool after a lot of day drinking. Should be a good time for all parties involved......

As a "Saudi oil man" myself I take offence with that statement. In fact I have not seen a single person in my region
wearing anything like that, maybe a gold JLC or platinum A. Lange every once in a while.

But I guess if you are educated by holywood, you can be excused for making that stereotypical assumption.

Yes, being confronted with one negative stereotype after another is annoying, and if pointing that out upsets you, then so be it. No hate here at all, my post was fairly clear and my objection was against teh stereotype and the comment, not the people. I see you have decided to reply with comments about the posters themselves, your choice.

Looks like this thread is heading south fast, im out.

Wow, this got awkward.
I mean those watches, they are so hideous, makes me uncomfortable :supereek: . At least now I know how Altair can afford all of those exquisite watches, bravo my friend.

Seriously? I can’t believe this thread is for real…..

Yes, I originally meant a “Saudi oil man” is known for being generous to his friends/family and has money to spend, not for wearing tacky crap. I would never insult a group of people like that, particularly on a forum of good people like this. Next time I will break my post down to the lowest common denominator, so nobody misinterprets my intentions. I will be careful not to be sarcastic of imply anything. It seems like most everyone “got it”, but what do I know, according to those up in their ivory towers I live in Hollywood and therefore must be a stereotypical simpleton. PC is one thing, but hyper-sensitive and launching intentional attacks is quite another.

Agreed with everyone else, let’s just move on and continue the spirit of the forum. We all visit the forum to enjoy ourselves, not to argue or confront others….A lot of this goes back to my post so I will apologize to all the members, specifically Altair.

. . . And I thought some of the blinged out Breitlings I saw in Vegas this weekend were bad. Those watches are repulsive. At least they ruined a bunch of Rolexes and didn't deface a good watch :poke: .

Gentlemen.....

I have tried to stay out of this, but clearly that's not going to work.

The reaction to the watches posted was entirely predictable, but the way that this thread has gone is completely unacceptable. The internet is an impersonal medium to communicate through and the possibility for misunderstanding is always there. We are also a global community and what might be appropriate in some cultures aren't appropriate in others - tolerance is needed in writing and reading.

However, resorting to personal attacks is unnecessary and unhelpful. It says far more about the writer than it does the audience. We are fortunate enough to be able to spend some of our time on a watch forum and that's a good thing. We don't have to agree with everything that is said, this would be a boring place if we all shared the same opinions (and there would be a lot fewer posts), but we are all expected to respect our fellow members.

I am locking this thread and will be going through editing some of the posts.
