Seems my "open-minded" comment hit right on

You're not missing a chance to attack and diminish the B01 you hate, so maybe you should wake up and look ahead and not in the past. :)

no comment...

Altair, I think many people see your points. 4 out of my 5 Breitlings are discontinued, so what does that tell you. I am active duty military, and prefer the Avenger line, but also enjoy the others. But I too don't like some of the newer stuff. For instance, why did they discontinue the B-1? It was a perfect watch once they made it superquartz, and then they discontinued it. The chronospace looks nice, but 49mm??? That's too big even for my 8" wrist. Same for the new chronomatics. I have a SA, but it's the Blacksteel version and looks good in camouflage uniform. (Kinda tactical)

I do think the company has strayed form the "instruments for professionals" theme, unless you're a "professional" rap star. Just kidding, but you know what I mean. I think they should get back to a few basics, and also press forward if that makes sense. The new Superocean seems nice, and I like the Seawolf chronos too. Just my two cents.

I agree with the original poster on most of his critique.

I personally don't like B's new designs, i.e. that flashy bezel, hideous square on the dial or almost 50 mm monsters.

But innovation in design is tricky. When Chronomat Evolution was introduced in 2004 - there was great deal of resistance from existing fans, but in a year or so the WIS grew warmer towards new Evo. It's Breitling's best selling model today.

I have to agree. Only recently, I made a post about the direction the company is going. I think they have become ingrown and self-satisfied with their previous success. They seem to be introducing a lot of models that are taking away from their Breitling-like styling. Changing the aesthetics of some of the models, not upgrading the movements to inhouse, and charging a huge premium (in most cases over a grand) for the cosmetic changes.
It just seems to me they don't have any real direction. I am not a big fan of the direction Omega has been going, but at least I can see where they are going, and how they are getting there.
I saw the new Superocean II, and it looks cheap and plastic. Not at all like the Breitlings I am used to.
I got an email showcasing the new 36mm Galactic (I believe is the name - indeed!), and pegging it as a ladies' watch. The Rolex Explorer I wear all the time is 36mm as well, as is my Railmaster and SMP 300, and certainly more than appropriate for a Gents' watch. I know a lot of women wear that size as well. I guess Breitling wants their image to projected as being large watches only appropriate for men. Sorry, I just don't get their whole objective.
Cheers,
Carl
