"Only one" watch for the rest of my life?! Heck yeah! And I'm sure I can carry it off on the wrist!

Paying the $275-$400K price may be more difficult...

I'm with you 100%, it's in my top 10.

Oh I agree it's a fantastic watch too. I guess I came at this thread from far too much of a "real world" standpoint when I chose the Rolex SDDS!

Yeah I think there are two different sets of answers here.

The 'if I can only have one watch for the rest of my life what's the watch that makes the most sense' approach and then the 'if I can only have one watch for the rest of my life then let's make it a doozy' approach.

My response was predictably in the second category

True. And mine, obviously, was in the first category.

It's a tougher question than some might think. For those as crazy about watches as most of us here are, this is kind of like asking what you would have if you could only wear one set of clothes for the rest of your life.

My answer was obviously in the first category as well. The chronomat was my choice mainly because it can be a casual watch or a dress up watch. And of course, its a ling, which means it can handle anything thats thrown at it. :lingsrock:

Without a doubt, my one watch would be the Patek 5070P. Just discontinued this year.

I'm allowed to post this link right?

This fits the topic I think. Opus9 wrist shot and a few others...

Harry Winston make some great pieces although many of them tend to be a little too heavily encrusted with stones for my liking.

Personally I prefer that skeleton tourbillon Roger Dubuis on that link. Absolutely superb, but then I am a big Roger Dubuis fan.

If I had to pick only one watch to live with it would have to be a Breitling (my first love of luxury watches) and then it would have to have the following criteria:

1) water resistant / proof to acceptable diving and swimming range
2) looks good on different straps and / or bracelets
3) chrono
4) date
5) not too blingy
6) around 43mm size (my SA is NOT in the list!)

So having said that it would be a Chronomat (EVO edition) or a Blackbird (brushed, big date).

I have been lusting over a brushed Blackbird lately and could easily see myself wearing it as a daily. My Evo doesnt get worn daily, cause its just do damn nice and shiney! Hmmm maybe I should make the 2 1/2 hour trip to the AD this weekend! :)

Now in a fantasy world where money means nothing...... I might be temped at a Patek perpetual 43mm model just because of the fuctions and well.... the top notch watchmaking. Their other models are just too small for me.

I sure would like to own a Breitling Navitmer 1903 - wonder where I could pick one up :?:

Come on Tim, don't say 'ever' :(
I will keep on looking!

You mustn't be looking hard enough Terry :D Mine was discovered in the Singapore airport AD. It had probably been on the shelf for the better part of 5 years.

One watch? Oh man.

Form my current collection, I'd guess the black dial Skyracer. Looks good on rubber, black or brown strap, and bracelet. Good size, fits my wrist well, sits well. Nice lume. Great functionality.

But if I had to pick one I don't have - the JLC Seals Chrono on both rubber and SS bracelet or the Fifty Fathoms Chrono.

I can't play this - it's too hard.

Oh, well if money is no object then that is even easier, The Officine Panerai Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT PAM00306 would be my one and only watch, I actually thought about selling ALL my watches, adding a little cash and buying it. I would be a happy camper! Then i found out the price costs double what my watches are worth and then some.

http://precisiontime.blogspot.com/2010/ ... minor.html

Still a magnificent watch by all means!

Well, I never thought that I would be able to answer that question, without a doubt in my mind. One of my coworkers and I were having a conversation yesterday about what we would do if we won the lottery. He, of course, said that I would go out and buy an expensive watch. At some point, I would probably do that, but the one watch I would pick if I could have only one watch:

Image

I still love looking at all types of watches. But since I had this Rolex Explorer on my wrist since Feb.1, I have to say it's the one. I have four beautiful Omegas watches as well, that get absolutely no wrist time. I try them on for awhile, attempt to keep them wound day after day, put them on, then they are off my wrist in an hour or less and back in their boxes. Having said this, the one new watch I am dying to see when it gets to my AD, is the new 39mm model of the Explorer. I never really thought that they would change the explorer, but lo and behold the new one's appearance is imminent. I do believe they did make some good changes, and can't wait to see it.
I still remember my Breitlings very fondly, and they are what started me on the road - a few short years ago - to all of this watch madness! :D

Cheers,
Carl
