Dear Sirs,

I need help to detect this watch.

I'm new to the forum and hope that you experts out there can give me a hand.

It owns to my family from ages and I re discovered it in a safe.

It's in PERFECT condition, manual recharge movement.

What's this? How much you think it can worth?

Wow, that dial is perfect.

It looks totally correct for a 1939 from the outside, any chance of movement pictures and a shot of the inside of the caseback? Everything I see looks correct, but would like to see inside before commenting further. Don't recall seeing too many of these for sale, but will try and research value.

There's no serial number anywhere???? I don't see anything in the pictures.

excuse please Roff, but this is not a 1939 Breitling, it is a re-edition of 1982 from Ernest Schneider in old case from 1939. Look good on the dial, its not original as 1939, its a very special style of "Breitling". Only the re-editions have this dial.
And the movement, its a Venus 195, this is a very late Venus calibre, just made in smal pieces at the end of production of Venus factory and never came in serie.

Look in the german Breitling-Forum ( 10.1 Breitling Datora Vollkalender + Mondphase, Chronograph ) and you find 3 of this watches, 2 of the Breitling signed re-editions and one only Venus 195 signed on the dial.

You're right, I had forgotten about the reissued ones. The original 1939 didn't have guilloche, that should have been the first giveaway.

what do you think about the movement calibre Venus 195 ?

I don't know enough about the Schneider reissues to know whether the 195 is correct, but I can't see anything wrong with the movement. They are certainly uncommon, but this one looks to be original - though where Schneider / new Breitling found it is anybofy's guess.

How do you recognize the difference between the calibers? Are they signed? I'm a complete dummy so please be patient.

You're not a dummy, just new to this.

The movements are signed with the Venus shield and a calibre number, although that's not usually visible as it is generally on the top plate (which is actually at the bottom) and so hard to see with everything else on top. You learn to recognise the deifferences in styles between manufacturers very easily - with Venus and Valjoux (the most common in Breitling chronographs) the bridge (signed bit) is a good identifier. In terms of specific calibres it's down to a combination of function, dial layout and movement features. Some of them can be very hard to tell apart visually.

The movement is absolutly correct in this watch, and yes this is a very uncommon calibre, the old Breitling company never used it. but Schneider found about hundred in stock and produced different limited reissues editions of Datoras with this calibre. In Benno Richter page 129 you find some of this reissues.
