Jeez, this is a difficult question!

OK there are too many fantastic watches out there in the "money no object realm", so I'm going to come at this from a totally pragmatic and practical standpoint. The watch I'm going to choose is from a company that has irritated me quite a bit over the years, and it's also a watch that I don't even own..... YET!

I've got to go for the Rolex SeaDweller Deep Sea.

Purely from a "could I live with it every single day" perspective then yes I could. Reasons for this choice are as follows -

1. It's a nice size without being too big to wear with a suit.
2. It's exceptionally rugged in terms of build and yet refined enough for all social occasions.
3. Design-wise it's a modern interpretation of an absolute iconic classic.
4. It's got a tried and tested in-house movement.
5. It's got all the water resistance I'd ever need (and then some!).
6. And lastly if ever I needed to sell it, I'd be guaranteed one of the best resale prices on the planet.

(Why the hell don't I already own one of these things!?!? )

No question for me its the DSSD. Classic design but a good size, and can be dressed up or down.

I had a feeling the Deep Sea was going to figure prominently in this thread.

Of my current collection, my Breitling 1903 is a watch I don't want to ever want to part with.

On the ridiculous side, the Blancpain 1735 comes to mind first and foremost. What a watch!

I sure would like to own a Breitling Navitmer 1903 - wonder where I could pick one up :?:

Come on Tim, don't say 'ever' :(
I will keep on looking!

Hmmm I could see myself wearing this platinum freak daily:

Seriously though, I'd go with a 233 or maybe just a 111 with two straps and I could wear it for all occasions and be happy :D

A very difficult question indeed. I have about 100 grails to consider.

In my opinion it would be best to go straight for the pinnacle of watchmaking so that you wouldn't be looking at other brands in the future and know you could have better. So, it would be a Patek Phillipe.

This also easily offers the second consideration: A timeless and classic design.

Third consideration: The highest build quality leading to a long and stress free service. This goes hand in hand with a brand that offers unprecedented after sales service.

One of their high complications would be nice but I would want something that could take all day-to-day knocks.

So, it would be this one (which at a stretch of my overactive imagination is just about finacially acheivable as well, because I would have had to sell my other watches, of course)

 That's one hell of a choice for a "wear it everyday" watch!

"Only one" watch for the rest of my life?! Heck yeah! And I'm sure I can carry it off on the wrist!

Paying the $275-$400K price may be more difficult...
