Someone offered me a 18k yellow gold daytona, white dial, diamond markers. Its roughly a year 2000. He lost the box and papers. Its def authentic I remember the day he bought it brand new. Any ideas on what its worth? He's fallen on some hard time. I just saw it this morning and I'd rate the watch 8 out of 10. If it got a nice polish it'd be a 9. No major scratches, all light stuff that will go away. I told him I'd give him a hand on a price point and where to sell it. He's going to try and get rid of it locally but needs a good starting point. Thanks for the help.

That's one fine watch :D

Looks like it could be had BNIB for 23,000$
http://www.swissluxury.com/rolex-watche ... acelet.htm

I believe 50% depreciation (since its ~ 10 years old and solid gold sports Rolex watches are kinda difficult to sell),
then there's NO paperwork, which is a huge negative for a watch of this caliber....

I think 10-12k is a fair price :?
Im looking at it as a potential buyer 8)

I LIKE IT :D

Have a look at Chrono24 to get a feel of prices. Probably the best place to get a good price if your friend is not in a rush. IF it has a gold bracelet, it will will be worth more than on leather.

http://www.chrono24.com/en/search/index.htm?dosearch=1&SEARCH_ADTYPE_ID=U&searchexplain=1&SEARCH_BRAND_ID=221&MODEL=daytona&SEARCH_PMIN=0&SEARCH_PMAX=0&SEARCH_PCURR=GBP&SUCH_MATERIAL_ID=3&SEARCH_COUNTRY_ID=&SEARCH_REGION_ID=&ENTERDATE=&SORTORDER=1&STARTSEARCH=START+SEARCH&SEARCHSTATS_BRAND_ID=221&SEARCHSTATS_MATERIAL_ID=3

This looks the closest match - just under $13,000 asking price

FYI....for what it's worth my colleague purchased an all gold on strap Daytona last month locally from an AD for $20,000 CAD tax in. He also picked up a YachtMaster at the same time which helped. They got 30% off.

The model and type of movement make a big difference for Daytonas and other Rolexes. Models discontinued long ago can be worth more than new ones.

I don't know much about Daytonas but I think 2000 was the year they changed from the Zenith movement to the in-house Rolex movement. Someone more knowledgeable might be able to correct me if I'm wrong about this, but I would have thought if your friend's Daytona has a Zenith movement that will make a BIG difference to the price. At least it would for a SS model, not so sure about YG.

18K Daytona's can be found in NYC 2007 Box/Papers around $17,500
Paul Newman's for around $14,500
These prices just require a keen negotiating sense, and a pocket full of CASH
