Thank you all for your suggestions. Most helpful indeed. As far as the suggestion this thread indicates I should do more research - this IS part pf my research. As a wise mentor told me - there is no more genuine demonstration of humility then asking for help.

I love this thread! Since you asked for our opinions, I would keep it to something a little less sporty, but still functional for daily use *cough* listentomeandbuythepamalready *cough*.

But...I'm going to my local JLC dealer and checking that MC Diving Chrono out today. As of yesterday I've never heard of it, today I have to get it ASAP.

The JLC Master Compressor Diver GMT is also nice, list is around $9000 I believe. If I remember correctly, also titanium but 42mm ?.

Too bad Govberg doesn't sell Breguet. I wonder how much discount I can expect at an AD?

The JLC looks pretty amazing on the bracelet. The ONLY "if' is the titanium factor.

But that type XXII - ooooh man!

Any insight here on titanium watches??

There was a time when I would say that I preferred steel because I like the hefty feeling that went along with it. I eventually realized that after about 30 seconds, I cant feel any watch that I wear anyway, so it doesnt make a difference to me now. Im pretty sure that JLC uses grade 5 titanium which should be a good deal stronger than the grade 2 that Breitling uses.

Well I can't help you on the JLC option. I stormed into my AD after lunch, Amex in hand and ready to fire! Of course they didn't have one, and they have to order one from one of their other locations. Hopefully I'll get to try one out soon :x

the two options the JLC and the IWC Yacht Club are beautiful watches, the thing that irks me with the JLC shown in this thread is the font used on the dial - but overall its a great watch, the IWC Yacht Club- now thats a watch, in 50 years that watch will still be a classic, will still look like a classic, If I had enough dough Id buy one.

Having lived with one for 2 months, Ti seemed much more fragile than ss. Or maybe they just show scratches much more prominently. I have heard ink eraser can smooth it out, but who sells ink erasers anymore? :(

Just returned from the oh-so-chic Scottsdale stores to check these watches out in the metal. Looked at the JLC MC Chrono and GMT (both quite nice), the IWC Portuguese 7 Day white dial (a little disappointing), the PAM Radomir and GMT (just not my style though lovely watches), the Breguet Type XXI (NICE!), and the Fifty Fathoms chrono a striaght versions(REALLY NICE). Also peeked at some UNs. First time leaving an AD without a watch so my daughter's tuition fund is intact.

OK, in person the Fifty Faqthoms is freaking amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! Better than I expected and it FITS. The Flyback's dial is amazing ans is the non-chrono. Both were much nicer than I imagined and I imagined damn nice watches.

But the bigger surprise was the Breguet Type XXI. In online pics/renderings the bracelet looks bland, the dial a little flat and VERY brown. Plus I wasn't too excited at 42MM. Well in person the dial has slight brwon overtowns in some lighting but is essentially charcoal and quite lovely with sharp deep subdials. The bracelet is sweet. And it looks bigger than any 42MM I've seen before.

So now it's between the FFF and Type XXI. Clearly the FFF is much more of a "pop on your wrist" watch. It doesn't get near bland as some pics suggest. The Type XXI doesn't have as much "WOW!" but it is a gorgeous piece as well.

Add in the FFF is 1.7 times the price of the Type XXI and the answer is........................I am more uncertain than ever! :?

Dont rush it. Enjoy the process. Get drunk go try them on again....You know the routine. Thanks for the little insight into a few different pieces.

It seems like you've narrowed it down to two choices but have you looked at the JLC Master Calender, beautiful.
