Hello, This watch found its way to me a bit ago and I cant really find much info about it, it is a beautiful watch with a black face with three silverish cronographs, it says AOPA on the top of the dial.
It has a small scratch on the crystal, can I have that polished or do I have to replace it? It also did not have a band but I replaced it with a black leather band.
Any info would be great.

A serial number would be great... some pics would even be greater...

As far as the glass, it is replaceable...

If it has three subdials, could be a Venus 178 movement...

Don't really know what more you would like to know... someone else could probably help you out more...

Got a Top Time myself... great looking watches... enjoy it!

Cushion shaped case?

Subdials at 3, 6 and 9?

Sounds like a late 60s / early 70s 814 which did indeed have a Venus 178. I'd guess late 60s with an AOPA logo. Photos would be very helpful.

That looks just like mine. so what kind of movement is in that watch? what kind of band did it start life with? how much should I expect to pay for the service? Should I trust an online watch repair place for the service? Things of that nature.
I dont know if I want to keep the watch or not, but I want to make sure it is right before I make that choice.
Thank you.

You shouldn't trust an online watch repair shop - PM a member on here chronodeco (Craig). He'll look after you and quote a fiar price and if you do decide to sell then everyone on here knows and respects his work. Depending on what's needed the work will likely be $200 - $300, but Craig will treat you fair.

Paul may know better, but from my experience the leather straps that came with these weren't anything to write home about - modern decent quality straps will be better.

There is a 1969 brochure on this site that will give you some idea of the look - http://www.breitlingsource.com/books_1969.shtml

Craig actually serviced this one for me a few months back. These watches most likely came with black Croc or lizard straps originally. That's one reason I went with a vintage lizard on this one.

Thank you for all the info, I think I will go with the lizard strap with the stainless catch, I found one online.
