I'm primarily a Breitling freak, and I never liked Rolex too much because I thought they were too small for my 8" wrist. That is, until I bought the GMT ceramic. Absolutely stunning, and insanely accurate. (+4 sec per month) So depedending on my mood and occasion, I will wear whichever feels better. Rolex has made vast improvements on their clasps and movements.

I like to think of Breitling as Lexus ,and a Rolex a Benz. The Lexus is a alot better bang for your buck, not to mention the maintenance on a Lexus is cheaper than a Benz :D. I also never liked saying to someone my watch is a Rolex, they either roll their eyes or assume it's fake. I am sold on Breitling ,and wont be going back to Rolex anytime soon.

I used to have 3 Rolex watches in the last 21 years: a steel Sub, a TT Sub and a steel GMTII. I've enjoyed them but sold all for various reasons. Today I have no Rolex watch but 4 Lings and enjoy them a lot. I appreciated highly the Breguet hair-spring, the balance bridge and the direct adjustment feature on the balance. (I wish Breitling followed suit in these features, at least in case of the B01 movement.)
My next Rolex will be the steel Daytona with day-date feature and the Sub's turning bezel. Taking the Rolex product develoment strategy into view such a model will not appear in the next century or so. So I'll stay with my CSO... until the Chronomat B01 appears with the day-date feature - and possibly with the escapement as written above:)
Best, Robert

the part I hate about Rolex is, even the fakes look real. You can spot a fake Breitling a mile away!!!

Not always, the B fakes are getting a lot better, look at the amount of members on here who have to go to the more knowledgable members to make sure.

Tell me about your Deep Sea. I am close to pulling the trigger on the 44mm model. Cloe, not there yet.

To me Rolex represents values that hasn´t got a lot to do with their timepieces and craftmanship. A lot of people buy them because of the percieved image of succes in wearing one has. It´s like a Luis Vuitton bag for women. Most women have nicer bags too, but to certain events the LV is the only choise. Their desirebility is why there´s so many fakes around, "beach Rolexes"!

From a marketing point of view it´s the best place to be for any brand. because of the desirability you can have a higher premium. From that point I respect the brand, They´ve done an incredible job in upholding that image, but the product for me isn´t interesting enough. Stylistically Rolexes have looked boring and dated ever since the 80`s and without that image, they would look well suited ony for people in their sixties.

It´s been said before, most buy Rolexes because it´s a must have accessory. In a sense you buy them for other people. Breitlings are mostly bought because you actually like the product, so they´re bought for yourself.

If some day Rolex would introduce an interesting piece I would consider one for sure, but as it stands, I´ve stil got around 20 years to feel one would suite me.

Greta watch, very well built and a clasp approaching Genius IMHO. That said it is weighty and was too big for my wrists. I would still urge anyone who can pull of a big Breitling to try one as you will not be disapointed.

It's 44mm, which doesn't seem that big to me. Does the thickness of it bother you? I've only had about five seconds of wristtime with the Deepsea, so I don't remember. :(

To me it wore a lot bigger, yes the thickness did bother me.

I too agreed with you 100% till about 10 seconds ago. You must read taffy's article. Now I am a little intrigued at the Rolex lineup. I am requesting a catalog from George now I think.

I'll have to admit one reason I haven't bought a Rolex is because it's so popular and considered by many for the wrong reasons to be oh so chic.

That said, it is hard for me to imagine that most Breitling owners don't buy with secondary attention garnering in mind. Come on, walking in a public place with a brand new Ling on you wrist garners the same "feel" as driving down the street in that brand new car. You mean you have never subtly "hiked" the long sleeve on your left arm at just the right moment to bare your new watch??

Be honest - it's O-K-A-Y. :)
