G'Day Crew,

I thought I would start a new topic in reference to this post:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=19460

Just an update. Spoke with Breitling Australia, they said that all my issues need to be taken up with the AD. They will service the watch, minimum $170, but the issues I have are NOT covered under warranty, especially it being "old stock"!

Just to clarify my concerns:

Was told that it was brand new.

Case back is quite worn (on and off the "C" ring would do that?)

Fine scratches on the AR

Smudge on the dial face, just under the 3 (possible oil contamination)

I have sent an email to the AD, outlining my concerns, including pictures of the caseback, but due to weekend/time issues no reply yet.

What would you do given my situation? It was purchased as a daily work watch, given that I had quite a few to choose from decided on the "safest" option buying from an AD. It will take me 2+ hours to get to the Service Centre and then the time for them to do the "repairs".

Regards,

Rob

I'd have major concerns about whether you received the watch brand new- you should have sent it back to the AD when you first received it. I would have been shattered if Id received a "brand new" watch in that condition. Maybe others in here can give you some advice, Im at a loss really, if it was me Id either have it repaired or Id sell it and cut my losses and go through George and get a watch- that will turn up in brand spanking new condition. In the end its up to you I suppose, its your decision.

As an aside, it has been explained to me that it was indeed new 8 years ago (B1 - Non SQ) and the watch is no longer produced.

If it had been explained to me that it was New, but given it's age and time spent in the AD it was showing some wear, I could have made a more informed decision on whether to purchase it or another pre-owned in a better condition saving $$$.

Thank you for the replies.

Rob

If the Ad told you that, then while he's technically correct, that's like calling any used watch NOS as there was obviously some point in it's life when it was new!

My (and probably just about very other WIS on Earth's) take on "NOS" is a watch that is no longer produced (hence "old stock"), but is in MINT condition and has never been sold to anyone (hence the "new" part). Anything other than that is something of a misrepresentation in my book. It sounds like it should've been described as perhaps "shop soiled", but not NOS if it's not mint IMO.

I completely agree with you and as a result I'd say you have a good case to ask for your money back, especially if it was a distance sale (i.e. you didn't get to try it on first).

Not sure whether or not an item not being as described is a warranty issue or not - I guess that I see the point, but someone needs to resolve it!

The age of the watch isn't directly for warranty purposes as the warranty runs for two years from the date of first sale.

Knowing the AD that you dealt with I have to say that I am very surprised.

Mee too I am amazed that it has arrived in less than perfect condition  , I would raise it with them and see what they say :lingsrock:

G'Day Crew,

Thank you for your replies and comments. I appreciate that my post was born from being passionate about my watches and that an everyday person probably wouldn't have been so foucused on the finer details.

As I mentioned before due to time differences, communication was difficult. The AD was EXTREMELY upset that I was not happy with the watch or the condition it was sent, has apologised profusely and has offered an extrordinary number of "fixes" to resolve my concerns.

To fix it means having to send back the watch  The best option given the initial response from Breitling Australia (although only over the phone.........).

Although far from being finalised, I am extremely happy/relieved that the AD :superman: wants to work together for a positive outcome.

Regards,

Rob

Sounds like youve got a good AD. It sucks having to send it away, but the peace of mind is going to be worth it in the end.
