Okay okay okay, I am sure that this thread has been done to death but I am new to breitlings. I have been lurking the board for a while and have been dying do buy a breitling. I am a recent college graduate and I am 22 years old working full time in nyc in the financial district. I know I am kind of young to be spending this kind of money on a watch, but the allure of a beautiful breitling on my wrist is just too much for me to stand. I figure that even though its expensive, it's a piece that will last me a lifetime and will be well worth it.

So as a total n00b when it comes to lings, would a chronomat be a good entry level watch for me? I am obsessed with the look of the graphite dial and polished chronomat. Also, what kind of price would I be looking at with this? I am figuring it would be around or about 4k. Any advice or opinions on this piece? Also do you have any suggestions for any other lings? I am looking for an automatic-chronograph.

Also, is there anyway that I can get the Black bird bracelet on the chronomat? I love the look of the bracelet but I am not that crazy about the setup of the BB and I think its TOO far out of my price range.

The graphite dial would be a great first Breitling. I owned this very same watch previously. Here are some pics.






The graphite dial was really cool. It may run a little over $4K, but well worth it.

Your best bet is to go to an AD and try some on. You will see the presence of the watch on your wrist and have a "feel" of it.

IMO, you can't go wrong with a Chronomat, graphite dial is nice. 4k is around the price you will get at 30% discount in the US. You could also look for a used one. They come out often and most of them are in mint or near mint condition. You could save 1k there.

Thanks for the advice. Living in NYC has its advantages in the matter of being able to walk into numerous jewelers to try on time pieces. Especially the enormous tourneau(although I would never buy from there). The problem is finding a trusting AD which has the right price. I have already talked to Jnelson about govbergs and it definitely seems worth a 2 hour trip to philly for a transaction.

Btw Huttfuzz, even though I am a Die hard rangers fan. I am pulling for your habs to knock out the flyers!

Welcome and it's a great watch.......The BB and chronomat have the same pilot bracelet, the BB has the option with it being polished or brushed both are stunning. Check out the new B01 chronomat it's the new era Breitling just came out and it has breitling's own first made in-house movement and it looks awesome..Remember that watch is not for every one alot of people here disapprove of it but you should check it out cause i think for long term this would look fresher and its a commemorative piece cause of the movement

The B01 is a gorgeous watch and the in house movement is tempting. But I just cant get past the bezel. If that was on any other watch than a breitling I would think it was gorgeous. But it just doesnt say breitling to me.

As for the pilot bracelet. The bracelet for the BB is faceted where as the chronomats isnt. (according to the breitlingsource video review of the latest BB). I like the faceted look and am wondering if that would fit on the chrono.

I believe the BB bracelet would fit the chronomat, as the cases are identical, whether or not an AD would sell you one separately is another story, I think the BB bracelt is only $100 more, never hurts to ask.

When you buy a breitling you are essentially paying for the head of the watch and for whichever bracelet or strap you pick. The total cost of the watch is literally those two items added together. So in theory, you could ask your AD to get t he chronomat with the blackbird bracelet, and you would only be paying the difference between the two bracelets on top of the chronomat w/ bracelet cost. Make sense?

Chronomat head is $4540. Bracelet is $1300. Retail total is $5840.
The blackbird bracelet is $1400, so you should be paying $100 on top of the chronomat cost ($5940 - whatever discount you get).

As others have said, the cases of the Chronomat and BB are the same so the bracelets will fit - the end links are the problems and the case dimensions being identical make that a non issue.

In terms of whether it's the right watch - I don't think that I need to answer that - the way that you enthuse over it means that it clearly is the right watch for you.

If you want to take a ride to Jersey I have an AD that only charges 3% sales tax. Urban development areas are allowed reduced sales tax rates. That extra few % on a 4k or 5k watch adds up real fast! It's definitely worth the fee to cross the bridges and come over.

I have the Blackbird and you're right the faceted bracelet is a real nice look. It should fit on the Chrono Evolution since they have the same case.

5-1 yesterday, not bad!

From what we hear on the forum, if your in the US, you have to go with Goerge at Govbergs, even better if you can drive there!! And it will be even more fun to drive there and feel the excitement.

BTW, watch out when you drive to come back, you're eyes will be set on your wrist. IMO, driving with a new watch (a shiny breitling for that matter) is the same as drunk driving.
