I think you probably are! Congratulations Roff, I know you've been planning these for a long time. That's a fantastic (and diverse) pair, please show us some pics in due course.

Yes now that you've actually told us of an acquisition you're going to have to provide pics

Congratulations. I do believe you are the only person on the planet to have bought that pair this week  Seriously nice choices there, you must be very happy.

The obvious question - which ones did you select in the end?

They are winging their ways from different parts of the world, but yes I'll show you some pics of these ones - I wouldn't tease you like that.

Still can't quite believe it and I owe Driver8 a debt of gratitude (again) for pointing me at the LM. I'm actually really pleased that I didn't go for the chocolate one on eBay earlier this week, I paid more but have a watch that is even more different that that would have been (colour wise).

The RJ has surprised me, it's the first watch purchase ever that I can't explain. It's not the RJ that I was planning to buy, in fact I was convinced that I would never buy one - it's a Titanic. I also think that the date wheel is the wrong colour, and the sub dial hands are wrong for the overall look, but at the end of the day I didn't care - the watch 'called' to me.

The biggest issue that I had, and this really chewed me up, was buying a watch with parts of the Titanic in it. I read a lot about different reactions to the search and discovery of the wreck, opinions from survivors, victims' relatives, etc but at the end of the day I had to decide whether I could wear the watch. I don't take it lightly, but I decided that I could - and I suspect that some people here will disagree with that decison. I understand that.

And I thought I was over doing it!

MANY congrats Roff and it is good to see that you have added these ultra unique pieces to your collection! I could not think of a more deserving fellow.

On a side note, care to trade for one of my Panerais?

Oh so you went for that RJ too! Nice going Roff. I guess that went for quite a nice price too.

I'll be very interested to hear how they stack up in person. Hope you'll be doing a little review for us? :)

As we discussed I tend to agree that the date wheel and subdial hand looks a little out of place but when a watch calls you there is nothing you can do about it! I also know what you mean about the whole titanic thing, but it looks as though you've reconciled yourself to it, so that's the main thing. And additionally I think you are probably a good owner for one of these as you obviously respect your watches and never sell them, so that is probably what something with parts of the titanic in it deserves.

Anyway, many congrats Roff and we're all looking forward to some nice blurry pics! :poke:

Thanks for the comments guys.

Altair, while the Panerai trade is tempting I think I'll pass for now  - oh, and you are overdoing it, it's just that I am too

Driver8, I managed to get the RJ for less than 40% of list price, so I'm happy - was actually surprised that it didn't sell for more.

I'll definitely do some reviews when they arrive, the LM will probably get here quicker than the RJ because of where it's coming from.

Having never handled these specific models I'm a little nervous, but what the heck - you only live once  The only thing that I am slightly nervous about is the size of the RJ (50mm).

On a separate note, I hate PayPal - they wouldn't let me pay for either of these with the credit card linked to my account - I guess because of the amount, so had to go through the bank account - the rip off PayPal exchange rate and no credit card points

Congratulations!

Quite a shopping spree there. I can somewhat understand your thrill, there's nothing like waiting for pieces you've long sought for.
