The battery has gone on my Chrono Colt.Is the only way to get it changed by sending it off to Breitling or is there a cheaper option?....i.e. a high street Jeweller who would change it.

You could definitely find a high street jeweller to do it, but personally I wouldn't. If your watch is under warranty (which I guess it isn't as the battery life is longer than the warrany period) you would invalidate your Breitling warranty by having anyone other than Breitling work on it. Secondly, you'll be unlikely to get a decent guarantee of water resistance from a high street jeweller. To give an example, I had a high street jeweller replace the battery in an old Seiko of mine a number of years ago. When I asked about water resistance, the line was "I'm sure it'll be fine". Anyway a few weeks later, the Superluminova started to go black (as a result of mold due to moisture getting in) and sure enough a couple of months later the whole thing ground to a halt..... never to run again.

I guess it's up you whether saving a few quid on the battery is worth the gamble of a non-working watch and a potential bigger bill later. For me it's an absolute no brainer that it should go to Breitling, but that's just me. But in asnwer to your original question, then yes you could get it done on the high street.

My friendly watchsmith in Stockport will replace the battery on my Shark for 10 quid.

No waterproofing guarantee but since I never am going swimming in it, it's OK by me.
