I sort of made a resolution this year to buy fewer watches - I realised last year that I was having trouble finding watches that were distinctly 'different', from what I already had. I therefore thought that I would be better off limiting the budget to one or two pieces that filled the need for something really unique - a Louis Moinet, perhaps a Romain Jerome (though likely not a new order), or even a more unique piece from an established brand. I'm not necessarily talking ridiculously expensive, but clearly these small run production pieces do tend to be a little more pricey, especially from boutique brands.

I'm still leaning that way, but I saw a watch at the AD that is starting to niggle at my brain. It's considerably less money so a little easier to justify, although obviously it will take money from the budget for something else. It meets my desire for something different, but I wonder whether I would still consider it different enough 3 months from now.

So what would you do - hold the course for a Louis Moinet, RJ, or similar later in the year or splash out for this:

Well Roff, as much as I like that Zenith I would love for a member to get a RJ. I think those watches are so unique (especially the lunar editions).

So my wish is that you hold out and when the time is right buy a moon face RJ and give an extensive review and lots of pics. Selfish, I know. :strummin:

I agree. For "something really unique", I'd hold off for the RJ. The Zenith while very striking, seemed more in line with increasing the numbers in your collection, rather than adding a brand new shining star! Plus, Zenith has been around for this long, you'll always have time to add a Zenith later! ;)

(And I admit, I also want close-up pics & detailed review of the RJ... )

Hold out for the Monet or the RJ. That way we can live vicariously through you and ALL the pics that are sure to come.

Given the (probable) size and variety of your collection Roff, and given that you are looking for something more unique, then I've got to say that if I was you I'd be holding out for the LM or the RJ. The Zenith (while being very nice) will only quench your thirst temporarily............... and then you'll STILL be hankering for the LM or RJ!

I say stay the course and get what you REALLY want. :D

I would say to hold out for the RJ or Moinet too... the Zenith will always be there Roff...

I'm actually holding out for something bigger too...

It's just that it's sooooo hard...

I'd go with the RJ of the 3 choices.

I know my reply isn't going to mean much but if i was you i would definitely get what's at a right price right now, the Zenith looks awesome and if it's not going to hold you back later on in the year to make a big splash then go for it , but if it is the then there will be another day and a different watch to catch your eye.... The watch looks great very unique.... So is the RJ and the price of it is also very unique but from a collectors perspective i would go with what my collection lack's of and get the best available piece....

ps. you have a great eye for watches what ever you decide we will all stick by you.... peace.

Dont like it. Zenith has a few Port Royals that arent too bad, but I aint feeling this one. I say skip this one, skip the RJ and hole out for the A. Lange and Sohne #1! :)

Don't do it. Hold out Roff. Which Louis Moinet did you have in mind by the way.

Hold out mate, that Zenith reminds me of a Tag Monico for some reason?

Not much love for the Zenith, I'm surprised, but actually pleased - the idea of a 'different' watch is that not everyone will like it.

The LM will likely be a Twintech, if it's an RJ it would probably be a Moon Dust.

I'm also looking at some possibilities from brands that you may never have heard of - Pierre de Roche, MCT, Claude Meylan and Ladoire. Pricing won't work for some of them, but the designs appeal.

I really like this Zenith and depending on the rest of the collection I'd be very tempted to get this one. The argument to hold out because the Zenith will be there later, just as easy applies the other way around. We both now that getting the Zenith (or something else) won't stop you from getting higher end later. :)
