No new Basel pieces unfortunately, but did try a few watches. No purchases, although a couple of possibilities (not Breitling unfortunately).

I really wasn't particularly inspired by anything as a whole, but did see some very nice dials. I tried the CM49 white dial and loved the look of the dial of the watch. I couldn't get past the right hand crown, that's the killer for me. The rubber bezel didn't look as bad as my memory had it from last time, but I still think that I would be uncomfortable with the concept of the rubber bezel.

Tried the Skyracers again - I've looked at them a few times without buying, and this time thought I might look differently knowing that it was discontinued. I do like it, but not really enough to buy.

Tried the SOH / SOHC, they didn't have an anniversary model, maybe just as well the white with black subs may have gotten to me, and again I like them, just not sure how they fit in to my collection.

Now, the B01s.

They had a lot there, and that hurt the overall look - with the lighting in the case and the polished bezels there was just way too much reflection. I tried several, the anthracite was my favourite, and the dial depth and detail really did impress me. I took a good look at the rider tabs, especially after Driver8's comments. They still looked a little weird to me, but maybe that's because they are different to what I'm used to. The bezel itself - I still can't stand it. I'm more used to the font now so it was less of a shock, but it's not really my thing. I would like to see the brushed bezel version though, I really think that the polished look was too much.

I think the fundamental problem that I have with what I saw in the Breitling cabinets today was the level of similarity with what I've bought over the last few years. I can't see any of the current pieces adding to my collection, unlike say some of the Zeniths, UNs, etc that I tried.

I agree about the bezel, i think it ruins the watch. If the bezel was a touch smaller and the crystal was a hair larger it would flow nicely. My eyes are drawn to the bezel rather than the face which happens to be very very nice. I happen to like the new rider tabs; they're very sleek.

I'm becoming a big fan of Carl Bucherer, the TravelTec in particular. Three time zones! Anyone have any experience or thoughts on them?

Tried some UNs including a gold Maxi Marine Chronograph with the ivory dial, and also the silver dialled Maxi Marine Diver Chronograph. Also took another look at the Executive Dual Time, although I think I would prefer the white dial that they annoucned at Basel. Was really hoping to see the LE titanium Diver Perpetual, but they didn't have one unfortunately.

Looked at a couple of Zeniths for my wife as well as the anniversary edition Port Royal which I really liked, the size wasn't too small. It wasn't the Grande Date, but I'm OK with that. Looked at the Defys again - I really like the Xtremes (a real change from a couple of years ago), but can't justify the price.

If I had to bet on which one I would buy - the anniversary Port Royal.

As for Bucherer - I'll wait until they put the awesome in house movement in a watch worthy of the name. I don't think the other TravelTecs offer great value - although the Four X is an awesome watch.

The four X is gorgeous but 50g for a palladium watch that has the same movement as the Traveltec which can be had for under 10g?

Wouldn't buy one, just think it's an incredible watch.
