If it wasnt for the B01 I would not own a Breitling. Now that i own one I can appreciate the other pieces.

But had it not been for the B01 I'd simply check the time on my cell phone.

Hi All!

Overall it is my opinion that this was a very silly discussion and as a result I had attempted to refrain from making any comments but I could no longer hold my tongue. Furthermore, I will tell you why!

1. The contemporary Chronomat i.e. Mr. Ernest Schneider – has no historical value to the Breitling Heritage pre – 1984.

2. The Montbrillant’s in the Navitimer range are more true to the original Chronomat i.e. slide – ruler than today’s version and/or post 1984 Chronomat.

3. The Chrono-matic 49 has no historical value either – missing left hand crown.

4. The B-01 Chronomat is just the next generation of the Chronomat – it can be said that the Chronomat has evolved into the present day B-01.
5. The current Cosmonaute – I know that Breitling can no longer purchase the Lemania movement – but I am sure they could have substituted with a similar movement and have been more historically correct.

Mr. Schneider i.e. Breitling is in business like any other business to make a profit or they would simply go away like the Dodo Bird. According to the consensus both pro and con the B-01 has brought new patrons into the Breitling arena. Henceforth, the B-01 is a commercial success –hooray for Breitling! In addition Mr. Schneider from the very inception of his company has never held true to the Breitling historical past 100% - self-evident by the aforementioned points illustrated above. So why should we expect him to do so now? Mr. Schneider owns Breitling and therefore, has the artistic license he needs to do what he thinks is best for the brand and/or his purse – period! You and I have purchasing power with our currency – we tell him what models we like and which ones we do not.

Now I have never liked the modern incarnation of the Chronomat period – I think that they are gaudy! However, the one exception is the Blackbird either old or new version brushed steel. I have had many friends and business acquaintances that have owned them and I have never looked down upon them. I have never ran into another person with a Navitimer in any configuration which is why I love them. I say live and let live – at the end of the day I bought my watch for me not my peers’ period. Furthermore, while the B-01 is not on my immediate list of Breitling must have pieces I would not mind owning one – simply for the reason that it is Breitling’s first in-house movement in a very, very long time and definitely in the modern era.

Nonetheless, I do have issues with most of the Basel 2010 announcements; more specifically the Galactic range and the New Wave - lol. However, I also understand the current dynamic economic conditions afflicting the world global economies. I feel that at this point in the game while I am disappointed with the current Basel selections it was smart to introduce introductory watches to the brand. The reason being is that there is less disposable income and perhaps the Breitling market is somewhat saturated resulting the need to bring new blood to Breitling. Furthermore, as these Breitling Novices mature so will their income hopefully and thus they will look to the brand that they have enjoyed during their less affluent days. Resulting in either a resurgence in the iconic Breitling timepiece and/or a more innovative ways of expressing classic examples of Breitling. In the meantime that does not prevent any of us from making the more orthodox purchases if we prefer. Ladies and Gentlemen simply enjoy your Breitling to the fullest!

Best Regards,

Enezdez

P.S I have never encountered any edginess nor have I noticed any from any of the members of the forum!

jeez, I aint been on this site for ages (thanks to a new baby)
but my tuppence worth is that I dont like the B01 , I think its a bit like the new BMW 5 series , it looks like like a step backwards from the previous generation.
Now what I am curious about is when Breitling will put an inhouse movement into a blackbird? :superman:

IMHO the new F10 BMW 5 series is the best looking ever and it's much better looking than the off going E60, especially the new F11 5 series Touring. :)

Fact is, it is exactly like the B01, packed with cutting edge technology and ages ahead of their respective competitors. :nana:

we'll have to agree to disagree :guns:

my comparison is because I think the new BMW 5 series looks like a warmed over stretched 3 series.
The E60 Msport looks like a more futuristic modern car .

The B01 just dosnt ,to my mind ,look as serious as the chronomat

If you know the BMW brand well, you'd notice that all series look more and more alike: the 5 is a "stretched", as you say, 3 and the 7 is a stretched 5. Or, you could go the other way round and say that the 3 is a miniature 5 and the 5 a miniature 7. All this is done on purpose, in order to provide the same corporate image. But, for the general public, I have to admit that differences between the 3-5-7 series are difficult to spot. We'll have to wait and see the M edition of the F10.

Anyway, here are some spy shots of the future 580HP V8-powered M5.

But, if you look around, it's not only BMW, if you look at the Audi brand, you can hardly tell, again for the general public, the difference between the A6 and the A4.

As for the B01, you're entitled to your opinion, but I have to respectfully disagree.
