I'm preparing on a trip to Vegas and i'm a little worried bout taking my Ling... I know you guys travel all the time and i know you take your watches with you, so if anybody can please tell me what should i do - wear the watch, take it off during security, put it in my carry on and put it on when i pass security, leave it in my luggage, or not take it at all..... :?:

I'm going to be really upset if i can't take it with me

There was a thread here earlier maybe 3 mo. ago where one guy took his thru security and it got magnetized and stop working, then at a AD the dropped it cracked the case and returned it to him even worse then when he gave it to them and i really don't want to go thru this...

Any suggestions or expert advise will be most appreciated but i'll take a few comments too
Thanks in advance cheers....

There are many threads on this. Consensus seems to be that if you hold the watch at the small of your back then you can wear it through the metal detector. I generally have any additional watches stowed in my hand luggage and put the watch I am wearing into the tray, but I know some people worry about that. If I am travelling to the US and have to remove my shoes (you don't for domestic here) then I'll slip it in one of them.

I've also noticed on the last couple of trips that the security staff are suggesting that valuables be put in your carry on to go through - I have had that suggestion for my wallet twice now.

IF YOU DO WEAR IT THROUGH SECURITY AND THE BUZZER GOES OFF, DO THEY MAKE YOU TAKE IT OFF AND GO BACK THROUGH OR CHECK YOU WITH THE WAND?

I just recently had an incident where I put my PAM in one shoe and my cell phone in the other. As the tray with my shoes were going down the conveyor the TSA guy said something and took my PAM and phone out of my shoes and TOSSED them in the tray next to my shoes - not good. My watch had two new (and only) scratches on the case side.

I now take my watch off and wrap it in something in my carry-on.

So best answer is wrap it in the carry on luggage and put it on when i pass security....
Roff not sure what do you mean about holding the watch in the small of my back :?: wouldn't that look suspicious with my one hand behind me like i'm trying to hide something please explain i'm not that educated..

When i come up to the check point they will ask me to take all metal objects out of my pockets, that stuff will be going thru a x ray machine if i'm correct would my watch be safe going thru that, and if i leave it in my carry on wrapped in something wouldn't it still go thru a x ray and damage it... Then if they see its wrapped they might think its some kind of bomb or something then i'll have to explain????

Thanks a lot for your answers guys......

X-ray won't damage the watch.

I don't know what the reaction would be holding one arm behind you - I've never done it, but it's frequently mentioned in simialr threads.

I wore my breiting through security last week at the airport and had my Panerai in the small leather case in my backpack. Everything was fine with it.

Here's a write-up I put together on what can and can't magnetize your watch.

In short, as the others have said, an x-ray machine will not magnetize your watch.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. Ironically, i was traveling!
