This watch was gifted to me last week by my father, and I could not be more in love with it!

The DateJust has always been an awesome dress watch in my opinion, understated yet interesting. The finish on this watch is fantastic, Rolex has upped the quality on these new models and the black dial model with Roman numerals is just gorgeous! The contrast between brushed and polished finishes is very beautiful.

The watch is 41mm and wears quite larger, it is a perfect dress watch size for my wrist and my Omega Railmaster is about to go due to this addition.

The bracelet is super comfortable and looks absolutely gorgeous, no technical innovations here like on the DeepSea but still very well made and leaps and bounds ahead of the old flimsy jubilee.

Although a dress watch, it feels rock solid and like it can take a beating or two and keep on ticking, unlike many dress watches I have owned/seen.

I really dislike cyclops, especially on brands like Panerai or other sport models but on a DJ it seems apropriate for some reason. Maybe because I grew up seeing them on the wrist of my father and brother, but for some of you who dislike cyclops this might be a big issue.

One of the cool aspects of this watch is the unique lume, only the single stripe at 9 lights up which looks very nice. Sorry about the bad pics but will post more when I get a chance.
All in all this is a new favorite of mine, as it fills out an empty space in my collection and it is a gift for my father. This will be the watch I still own 60 years from now.

Here are the technical features

*Model number: 166334
*904 L steel case and bracelet
*18ct White Gold Fluted bezel
*Case Diameter: 41mm
*Choice of dials, model reviewed - Black baton dial, w/ luminous hands and markers, arabics around the circumference
*Twinlock crown
*Sapphire crystal w/ cyclops date magnifier (Antireflective coating on underside of cyclops)
*Oyster bracelet with Oysterclasp
*Waterproof 100m/330Ft

The Movement

*Cal. 3136 (exclusive to the Datejust II)
*28.8k BPH
*Self-winding, chronometer rated
*Quickset date complication
*Parachrom blue hairspring, Paraflex shock absorbers

Congratulations again Altair, what a beauty! Great to hear also that it rounds out your collection! I particularly like the roman numerals, I think they suit the watch well.

Very nice Altair. I'm sure it will remain a special piece for you, handed down one generation - so far!
Enjoy. :D

Altair, that's a great watch! I've never been particularly attracted to the DJ line or dress watches in general, but this model is really speaking to me. I think it's a combination of the larger size, the black dial with romans, and the finish on the bracelet and bezel. Really classy, would go with just about anything.

By the way, when did the BP appear in your sign-off? Have you been shopping again? :D

Thats a better review than mine and very accurate, the word classy springs to mind when you see this watch.

Congrats mate.

I had a close look at this exact piece recently on the Gold Coast while on holiday.

The Mrs actually approved - doesn't happen too often with my watches. :)

You've had quite the month Altair.

That's a tremendous gift from your father, wear it (and all the others) in good health.

I'm not personally a fan of the DJ's myself, but it's still a very elegant piece Altair. What a collection you have now! Superb!

Hi. I have bought this same exact watch last week in Singapore.

But when I visited the official Rolex website, I cant see the exact same model of it. 116334 Datejust II with black dial and roman numerals in steel and white gold.

I only saw 2 different models of it. The one with black dial doesnt have the roman numerals but only small rectangular things.

Why is it?
