Going to pick up a new dive watch when I go overseas next month. I want something to swim with, so it needs to be on bracelet or rubber.

Here are the contenders (in current preference order):

1. IWC Aquatimer 2000.
2. Superocean Heritage 46
3. Omega Seamaster 300 GMT

I've ruled out the new Superocean (finally accepted that it's likely to be too small for my tastes, plus it won't be here until June/July) and the UN MMD (I want to wait until the Basel 2010 models start to come through).

What do you guys think?

I'd go with the Aquatimer, I've owned all these at one time but prefer the IWC fit.

In the last week had a chance to see first hand and try on the UN MMD and the IWC Aquatimer. These were two of three divers I had on my list (other was B superocean II).

The UN was a nice size, less thickness than most, about 12mm I believe. I liked both the silverized (white) and black (enamel) dials, did not care for the grey dial. I did not like the rubber strap, couldn't get it to fit my wrist properly due to the metal links in the rubber. The SS bracelet would pobably fit better but unable to try one, I want rubber at this time. My overall impression was nice watch but not sure worth the higher cost to me and poor rubber strap fit a deal breaker.

I tried on the black with yellow accent bezel Aquatimer 2000 this week in Florida while on vac. The dial was large and easy to read, bezel was very sharp and clean looking. The rubber strap fit very well for my wrist, just the right hole locations. The "quick release" spring bar system would be nice for swapping IWC rubber and bracelet. I liked the 44mm size and the 14mm thickness didn't seem to wear that thick, weight felt very similiar to my PAM 005 on rubber that I had with me. My overall impression was a very nice looking diver, good size with good fit, would prefer this watch over the UN.

I have to wait to see the B superocean II but for your situation I would recommend the Aquatimer, it kind of jumped out at me - overall appearance was even better than I expected.

Good luck!
Terry

Clean sweep for the Aquatimer so far!

Thanks guys, you've confirmed what I was already thinking. It's more than I was looking to spend (thing costs AUD 7,800 list here, though at least I can get a good chunk off), but what price satisfaction? :D

Ring George, fantastic to work with. Before I got my BO1 a Melbourne based dealer asked me for 12k+ Aud, I rang George, organised my watch and got an amazing deal on a brand new BO1.

I like the look of IWC but not sure if i would wanna spend that type of money on something so plane and simple. I would get the Avenger Seawolf Chrono or the non chrono looks pretty good too and cost less.. Plus the diver pro rubber strap is really cool for those watches but im sure you know that.......

Good luck on your purchase

Update: as I've posted in the Breitling discussion forum, I've gone against the considerable wisdom of the forum members and bought the SOH.

Reason? Well, as much as I like the Aquatimer, I reluctantly accepted that the yellow is too much for me to pull off with a suit (which I seem to be wearing round the clock at the moment) and at the end of the day I like the UN MMD more. So... I get a new watch now, I pocket the substantial saving over the Aquatimer (more than 2,500 USD equivalent) and get the new MMD when it's available later in the year. :D

Thanks to all for sharing your views, much appreciated.

I can understand your point. One really has to like that much yellow on the AT - more sporty look and you can't change it. Keep us informed (I'm sure you will) on the new UN MMD your looking at.

Meanwhile, welcome back to BREITLING! :lingsrock:
