I have been contemplating trading my Chronomat Evo in on a new Navi World. Finally got a chance to drop by the AD today to see what they had, low and behold they had a white dial Navi in stock. Retail on the Navi with bracelet was $6800 CAN, retail on my 6 month old Evo with bracelet new is $5840 CAN (I picked it up used for $3200 a few months ago).

The AD’s initial offer was my Evo plus $3800 for the Navi. I realize that they need to make money on the resale of my Evo, but this seems a bit excessive, assuming a 20% discount on the Navi, this puts the trade value of my Evo at $1640.

Anyways, to my question, does anyone have any advice in regards to what is a typical difference one can expect in the way of trading a watch at an AD as opposed to a private sale?

Sorry for the long post.

S

Essentially they are giving you the navi world at or a little below cost and are taking your chronomat as profit. They are only actually buying it at the amount of profit they would have made had they sold it to you at 20% off. I think you will do better if you sell it on your own, but then you have to deal with selling it the paypal fees shipping etc. If you take it would be a one stop thing. I would sell it privately then go negotiate a good deal for yourself.

Retail of Chronomat = $5,840, therefore AD can buy a brand new Chronomat from the distributor for $3,212. That's their comparison.

Thanks Roff, I mis-spoke in my original post, they want $3800, not $3000 as the difference, that only puts a value of $1640 on my Evo, if they can buy a new Evo at $3,212 and assume they sell it for 20% off, they make $1,460 on the deal. If I were to accept, I would be willing to bet that if I went in the next day I would see my Evo for sale at around $3,100, so they make the same $1,460? doesn't seem very fair......

he takes care of most of you, i dont know why he insults me, but he offered me a garbage deal on my b01, a joke discount, and insulted me on the trade in of my diamond superavenger, it was 2 tranasctions. so i dont know what i did to deserve it. im a laid back guy, i have nothing personal against him, but he gets treated like he walks on water, and my ad beats his prices and takes the best care you can immagine.
and im not guessing and generalizing, you be the judge. he told me 7k for the same b01 i paid 5800 for and offered me 2500 trade in on my diamon bezel superavenger, in perfect condition.

The bottom line is, watches are like cars once they leave the AD their value drops instantly. Its unfortunate, but these are a luxury.

i totally agree with you about the value dropping once you leave. but seriously from 15k msrp to 2500 is a bit harsh dont you think? even a high end vehicle would lose a max of 60% inside of 5 years.

I totally agree. However, I bought a Mercedes Benz S500 for about 90K in 2004. You can by a used one for 25K now. Luxury items depreciate , quickly .All watches(besides Rolex) lose alot of value.
