Thanks for all your input.
I can definately afford this watch without going into debt/ financially ruining myself... but i guess i would feel almost guilty for spending the money.

do any of you ever feel like this?

I used to feel guilty when I bought pieces, but it struck me that it was a stupid philosophy.

I work hard to get what I have in life, and I put my financial obligations first - mortgage, retirement, etc. I only use discretionary income on watch purchases and I refuse to put a price on making myself happy. If I can afford the piece and I am not sacrificing something that is needed for something that is wanted then there's no point in feeling guilty.

Ultimately I see little point in being the richest guy in the graveyard!

I agree with Roff. I don't feel a lot of guilt. But I save first. A very large percentage of my income goes into savings, both retirement and what I like to call the "F&*k You Fund", which is enough cash so that I can walk away from my job for a couple years and still maintain our lifestyle.

Since you already mentioned your finnacials to be in order, just go for it. I have a saying that, If you really truely want something and money´s not the problem then money shouldn´t be a problem.

The guilt of spending that much money on a luxury product is normal, but when it´s done with a lot of thought and consideration, the guilt will wear of very quickly. That lovely baby will slowly spellbound you and it´ll feel like the best purchase you ever made. Well atleast it happened to me.

If the money is not an issue, my advice is to try to time it as a significant "reward" to yourself, for a significant "achievement" either academically, socially, or anything that has a lot of personal meaning to you.

That way, you won't take the watch for granted, and you won't "desensitize" urself to such luxury rewards too quickly. Otherwise, each year u might find urself "needing" more & greater objects of wealth before u'll feel happy -- and that would be sad.

Feeling "guilty" is a good, healthy feedback, imho. Nobody "needs" luxury items. It is always a "want" item, and should always be purchased with a bit of guilty pleasure. Being able to afford something, doesn't mean u should, nor guarantee u'll be happy if u did buy it. My 0.02!

Turning 23 next week, bought my first Panerai. Had a Stang since i was 17 (supercharged also hehe) and my photography equipment is probably worth more than the average house.

The point is if you can afford it without it combursing your life financially, then go for it.

I always say, you only live once, enjoy it

Basically, this was the same discussion i had today with some of my friends. I have the money, but i almost feel guilty for paying that kind of money for a watch (even though i earned it the hard way, have no students loans, etc) . I thought only I had that problem :)

I think everyone has that problem, at least in the beginning. I'm 22 still in college, but I have no debt, obligations are covered and there is plenty more left, It doesn't hurt my feelings to spend on the things I love. Watches, cars, bikes...

Where I make myself feel a little better, is that I value shop everything. I always make sure that I am getting the biggest bang for my buck. Whatever helps you sleep at night, right? haha :lingsrock:

I'm only 21 at uni, on my 3rd Breitling and 5th expensive swiss watch. As long as your willing to part with it if you need the money then I'd go for it, although don't expect your friends to take any notice, no1 in my class knows what a Breitling is... :poke:

No, I'm 19 with a steel/gold cockpit with diamonds and mother of pearl and I don't have a problem owning it. Do it.

Thought I'd mention!

I'm 19, in my first year of uni and I bought my first Breitling just last week. I came into a bit of money by way of a scholarship from uni. It's a big purchase and a lot of money by anyone's standards, but my reasoning was if I didn't buy something nice with the money, then it just would have whittled away with small petty purchases, and funding the student lifestyle. I'm not exactly broke after buying the watch, but I wouldn't be too far off it - though I argue that I'd probably be in the same position in a few months time while the money burnt a hole in my pocket, except I wouldn't have a beautiful Breitling to show for it :)

I got my first Breitling when I was 22 and in school. If you have the money, go for it.

You can never be too young, as long as you understand and appreciate what you have :D

Context: I am 25 and currently have 3 Breitlings (B02, Chronomatic, Bentley GMT) and a "few" other watches :lingsrock:

I got my first Breitling (B02) as a HS graduation present (so I was only 18 with a brand new Breitling) and since then I have been pretty into horology in general.

Don't listen to anyone who uses an argument focusing on "not having anything to look forward to if you start out with a nice piece"... you might follow my path and see the first Breitling as a springboard into the wonderful world of timepieces (in which there is always room for "improvement" or at least having something to "shoot for").

Good luck!
