Need some opinions....

I had made my mind up to get a new SOH black on the mesh bracelet

But have now seen a used 2 year old black Arabic faced Avenger Skyland on a pro II bracelet for the same money as it's grown me......

Which would you go for and why???

Sounds like you need to flip a coin. Both watches are great in their own aspects.

Between the two mentioned, I would go for the AS proII.. it feels much more solid and is a heavier watch. Also, make sure you try on the mesh bracelet as it's completely different from other bracelets, you either love it or hate it... I wasn't too crazy about it, when I had it... I recommend you try the SOHC as well, it's much cooler than the regular SOH, IMO of course!

Financially the SOH sounds like a better deal to me. Presumably the AS is out / almost out of warranty if it's two years old.

However, very different watches both in terms of look and also chrono vs. non chrono. As always, it has to be your personal preference,

I really like my SOH. It was my first real watch and was purchased for me when I got married in Nov 2008. I don't know if it is the sentimental value it holds to me or the watch itself but it rarely leaves my wrist. I have it on mesh and lately i have been wearing it with a black calf skin with a folding clasp. I just think it is a classy and timeless watch. I plan on giving it to my first born son when he gets married and I suspect it will still be in style then. Best of luck with the decision.

thanks for the feedback, you're the 2nd person to describe the SOH as timeless and I know what you mean, it has a retro feel to it...... Obviously being a Heritage
