Breitling needs to stop wasting time with Blacksteel and focus their efforts on fully utilizing the B01 movement.

i think it hurts the asbs models most, the sa is the only one in a big 48mm plus size, there are now what, 3 in the 44 to 45 mm size?

im keeping mine, i wear it every day, still love it, not goin anywhere.

seems the people who dont have them are more pissed than those of us who do...

People seem to like the feeling of exclusivity when they buy a limited edition piece. I guess some people bought the ASBS/SABS because of that and not because they liked the DLC look. To them I say too bad.

I can see doing 1 per year and like everyone has said, it just seems like a serious lack of ingenuity on behalf of Breitling doing 3 this year.

I think this is the point people are upset about. It shows a lack of ingenuity and the sense of "Just slap some DLC on a model to make the hoi polloi happy."

It's a "nice" option for those who'd like it, but just seems half-assed.

:yeahthat exactly. I know we shouldn't get worked up about it because it's not like it's our company or anything  , and yes people are right when they say if we don't like them, then don't buy them. BUT........

Personally I've loved Breitling watches for well over a decade, and literally drooled over each new Chronolog every single year waiting to see what new and fantastic model they'd dreamt up....... until about a year or so ago. The vast majority of new Breitling models over recent years have left me a little underwhelmed. In fact, I think the last new model that totally wowed me was the Navi World, and that came out in 2005! That's not to say I've not liked some of the new models since then, but nothing has wowed me enough to make me want to buy one of them.

For the longest time I was waiting for an in-house movement from Breitling, so I was waiting with baited breath for the B01 to arrive. And when it did I was a little underwhelmed yet again, purely due to the fact that it doesn't seem to offer anything particularly ground breaking. It's been said before, but the B01 is more of an evolution than a revolution. However, I was still planning to buy one immediately........ until I saw the B01 Chronomat bezel, and that was that. :?

Now going back to the original topic, I'm personally a bit irritated by all this Blacksteel preoccupation that Breitling seem to have become stuck in, because it shows a real lack of forward thinking and innovation IMHO. The first BS AS was something different and while the surface coating put me off buying one, I really liked the look of it. (If it had been made of ceramic I'd have snapped one up long ago). But now we are going to have SIX blacksteel models in the range, all with red accents and on rubber straps. To me it just shows the direction Breitling is going in - i.e. away from the innovation and forward thinking approach that always kept my interest in them. Don't get me wrong, this BS BB is not a bad looking watch - far from it in fact. Just like all the other BS pieces, it's a damn good looking piece. It's just that we've seen it all before.

In all honesty, Breitling aren't currently in my thinking with regards to where my watch collection is going to go, and that saddens me a little because I genuinely have an affection for the brand. Of course if a decent looking B01 equiped model ever turns up (no offense to any B01 Chronomat owners - this is just my opinion), then of course I will snap one up, but in the meantime my Breitling collection will either stay the same or get smaller, because it certainly won't be getting any bigger.

As someone said before - supply and demand. I for one don't like the black steel watches, but that doesn't mean they are unattractive or any other negative. Just personal taste.

I can't speak on a couple limited run "black steel" models exhibiting a lack of ingenuity or wasted R&D time, though were I to speculate, it seems a touch far feached. IMHO.

So I say to all my Lingers - Kumbaya.

This is my first post, and I have to disagree with everyone that hates this watch. I was about to buy a regular Black Bird and have it DLC coated myself. It'll be nice to get a Breitling warranty on the coating instead of one from a jeweler. The SA is way too big for my wrist, and I love the dial layout on the BlackBird. I'll probably swap the band, though. My original plan was to buy a BB with a Pilot band and have the whole thing DLC'd (I got one quote at $1,500), but I may just go with an Ocean Racer strap and have the clasp DLC'd.

You can buy a DLC OR clasp from Breitling.

Even better. Do these "Limited Editions" still come with a healthy markdown from MSRP from an AD? I haven't bought a Breitling in almost 15 years. What is the standard discount on a Breitling? Back then it was 30% on a standard model without really working too hard. Thanks.

Around 18,000 different threads on here at als tcount I think

In North America close to 30% is doable, more if you are really lucky. In europe, nowhere near that.

In terms of LE discounts - it depends a lot on the AD. Most if not all will discount, but some won't discount so deeply on LEs. I have a good relationship with my AD and get the same number regardless, but then I've spent a lot of money :?

Not normally, remember, if there are 2000 world wide, there are 300 in the us, that means less than 1 per dealer. i found when shopping for my sabs, most dealers stay tight at list, maybe i fyou know someone, you can get a5 to 10, but list is gonna be it for at least the first few months, then the dealers who have some left might give a deal, but its certainly not the norm.

now that there are 4 new models, we'll see, but there hasnt been much discounting on the older ones.

Thanks guys. It sounds like these LE models trade like Rolex or Panerai. If that's the case, it may still be cheaper to get a BlackBird DLC'd aftermarket. That would also keep the red highlights off the dial which I'm not sure I like or not.
