Is there anyone who can help me get the Chronos working correctly? It seems fairly complicated and obviously pushing the start/ Stop buttons in the correct order is paramount to get them working correctly. Also, Is the Breitling 53 movement partly automatic? Thanks for any help.

I don't think that it's different from any other chrono. Top pusher starts and stops the chrono and second pusher resets it to zero after it has been stopped.

The 53 is a quartz only movement.

Thanks for that info.
The dial on the J class Chrono has 2 second hands and they seem to work independently from each other. Also, on the caseback is the reference number 80250 that being the model of the J Class Chrono and also the stamp 'Automatic' whereas on the dial it clearly states Quartz.

The J-Class Chrono uses an ETA 251.262 movement, same as my Shark.

You can't find a Breitling manual to download but the Chase-Durer Squadron Commander uses the same movement and has a manual on-line.

http://www.chase-durer.com/pdfs/manual_squdroncommand.pdf

Chronograph functions are the same on both watches. 2 pusher to start/stop, 4 to take a split time/catch-up/reset.

Have you any idea why the caseback says 'automatic' and yet the movement is a quartz? The reference number on the back is 80250 and that checks out to be a J Class chrono also the serial number checks out.

80250 is not the J Class Chrono. 80250 is the regular J Class, and that is automatic. J Class Chrono is 80290.
