i'm thinking of buying my first breitling. i got a few questions for you guys and i hope you can help. i'm looking at the super ocean steelfish xp. 1st is automatic reliable? i have a tag quartz and it lasted 11 years with everyday use. i never owned a automatic before and people say it needs to be serviced and it can cost big bucks. 2nd where is a good place to buy one? the ad here charges full retail price. i see some sites online and it's so much cheaper, and in most case no tax and free shipping. i know there are alot of fakes out there so if you guys can help me out i will apreciate it. thanks.

The Steelfish is based on an ETA 2824 movement, which is about as reliable as they can be. Service is recommended every 5 years, but realistically you may get years more (or less) use than that before you require a service. Breitling will charge something like $350 for the work. I have no clue where you are located, so I have no idea what you should be paying. If youre in the US, it definitely shouldnt be retail. Let us know where youre from and im sure somebody will send you the appropriate info.

Where are you based? I can recommend many good AD's in the UK!! You certainly should not be paying retail prices. Most good AD's normally offer at least 15% off the retail, depending on the watch. Be careful buying online though because you dont know where your watch is going to be coming from!!

i live in hawaii and everything is expensive here.

Have you considered buying from the UK, there are a few AD's that ship out there that I could recommend to you. You can get the discount and you can claim the tax back also. May charge a bit for shipping, but it would be worth it for the discount you could get!

US buyer buying from Europe is a crazy idea - higher prices and smaller discounts.

An automatic watch will last literally hundreds of years if well maintained, so no issues there.

thanks justin, called your guy and he qouted me $2,200 including tax and shipping. i'm gonna check out some local ad to see if they can match it, if not i'll call your guy. i'll post some pics as soon as i get the watch. oh yeah i dropped your name and it helped, thanks justin.

i went to a local dealer and they want $2500 for the watch and 500 for the braclet. i thought the braclet was included? i told them i got a quote for 2,200 including tax and shipping and they said it was not legal for a out of state dealers to send the watch to a state that has a dealer already. i'm pretty sure i asked for a steel braclet when i called george in new jersey, wow a big price difference.

What happens if your in one country and buy from an authorised dealer in another country. Do you still get to keep the Breitling warranty? Can you then take your watch to a authorised dealer in your home country when servicing is required.

Happens all the time. That's part of the benefit of buying from an AD.

I hope no one will take offence here, but there are a couple of things in this thread that bother me........

George is a friend of this forum and has got a lot of people incredible deals. In return we simply respect him and his business by having Justin (jnelson3097) control access to him so that he doesn't get bothered by lots of timewasters.

I think that we need to extend that courtesy a little further and maintain a level of confidentiality when any of us have conversations with George about deals - there's no need to post dollar amounts in threads.

Secondly, I think it's a bit of an insult to George to use him simply as a bargaining chip. People are given an introduction that is only avilable through membership here, are quoted incredible prices from an AD with an impeccable reputation and the best customer service going and they want to simply treat it as a 'beat this' price for another dealer. I find it disrespectful.

Just my 0.02.

Absolutely agree, people chasing deals is fine but people shouldnt openly talk about it and name people in here. Its disappointing.

first of all i did'nt mention george's name or even tell the local ad it was in phili, i said jersey. i was just surpised by the difference in price of $700. second i thought something fishy was going on with big price differance so i checked the feedback section and found so many good reviews about george and now trust him. i hope i did'nt offend anybody.
