Get your name down for the Steinhart forum LE. You will not get a better watch for the money IMHO.

approximate price range you're hoping to stay within? I'm guessing $500 or so.
Strap or bracelet?
Hacking movement or no?
Date function? (y/n)
Chrono function?
Dress/sport/diver styling? Are you looking for something unique or are you interested in a homage of another well-known watch, like for example a Flieger type or a homage of a Rolex Submariner?

Given that you've already looked at Lum-Tec and Steinhart and jlee suggested Oris 8) a few other brands I would suggest looking at for starters would be Accutron, Tissot, Hamilton, and Ollech & Wajs.

Nixon has been discussed on here recently - use the search function.

'Not too expensive' is a relative term, and you have some good recommendations. There are some varied prices but www.watchbuys.com has some interesting boutique brands - mostly German.

Thanks for all the replies.

arround $500 or cheaper would be good, since im saving my money for a Navitimer 50th an. 2002. or a navitimer World etc..

Im not looking for a specific type of look, just a watch that looks good.. Style probably towards the Pan style or modern diving style with leather or rubber strap... Im not to keen on direct knock offs :o(

I found that seiko has som pretty watches, in general i find a lot of pretty watches out there when you dont look at the usual brands.

If i want to go look in a store over here, where would i go ???

I own one of these and it is one of my favorite watches.

Truly think they are good-looking watches. For "cheap" I really do prefer vintage to a newer watch.

Orange (or Black) Monster (under £100).

Or if you want to go ultra cheap, a Seiko 5 (under £50).

Ordered this thing from ebay last nigt, 99 dollars. Chinese, might be crap, but no big loss. Point is, take a look at ebay, they have cheap chinese mechanical automatics.

Also, take a look at http://www.alpha-watch.com/index.php

I looked into the Nixon watches a few weeks back for a beater to and found this:

http://www.streetfusion.co.uk/p/3084/Ni ... -Black.htm

Not decided whether to go for it or not but they seem to have a very varied selection in their range.

Cheers

I'm sure there are more informed opinions on this forum but for the money this is my favorite vintage watch. Seiko developed the first automatic chronograph movement with a vertical clutch mechanism and this watch is a descendant. The styling has held up well IMO. I had mine serviced after purchasing used and has run like a charm since.
