I need some quick help here. I met a guy that is looking to liquidate his Omega PO. He wants 1200 cash for it. Is this a good deal? I know NOTHING about omega. All I know is that it is a sweet watch. I did handle the watch and can tell by the weight, fit, and finish that is is real. It is the black dial with orange face? I think I might be able to get him down to 1100 or 1000. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thats a very good deal. If you can talk him down more it will be a down right steal.

BTW, this is assuming that its on a metal bracelet.

Assuming (a) you're sure it's real, and (b) it's in good condition, then it does sound like a good deal to me. It's a lot of watch for 1k. If it's on bracelet, list price is either USD 3,550 or 3,650 depending on the size.

Might be worth checking whether the movement is a 2500C (the most recent version). Earlier versions (the 2500A, I think) had some problems.

Good luck if you decide to go for it. I love my PO, it's on my wrist today. I've had it longer than anything else in my collection.

Wow, this could be good. I don't think it has any boxes or papers though. It was on the steel bracelet. I will try to get him down I will let you know if anything happens.

Seems all non-chrono POs have the 2500C movement. I have no idea if that's correct, but I do know the 2500C has been around for well over 3 years, so if the watch is younger than that then I imagine you can be fairly confident that's what it's got.

Okay, so does anyone have any experience identifying the 2500c version from the others. Also he has the boxes and papers in the UK. There is no budging off the $1200. If I dont go through with it I will get his email for others here that may be interested. The thing is I have been planning getting a steelfish this month but who knows if I can convince the boss this could be a good month for me!

I've done some more searching on TZ and WUS, and it seems pretty clear that all non-chrono POs have the 2500C. I've found many posts consistently saying that, for example this one:

The only place I have found a contrary suggestion is here:

and on reading that again, it only says the movement comes in 3 variants.

I think you should go for it.

If he will post me the boxes and papers from england I will. And if i have remorse I have no doubt I will be able to get my money out of it fairly quickly based upon what I have seen here and on other sales places. Thanks for the help. Otto you have been especially helpful.

Thats what I was gonna say. Worst case is you buy it, flip it, and then buy a steelfish with the money. Hell, ill buy it for $1200 if you dont buy it.

Just a word of caution. There are some fairly good PO fakes out there. I know you said the finish and the fit cause you to feel that the watch is genuine but be careful. There are some really really good fakes out there that unless you know what you are looking for you can really get burned. If I were you I would try to post a pic on an Omega forum before turning over any money unless you really really trust the seller. Sometimes a really good deal is too good to be true. Just my two cents.

Thanks for the sound advice. I keep going back and forth on what to do. The fact there are no papers makes me a bit uneasy. I haven't handled too many Omegas so I could easily be fooled. I do work for an AD of other watch brands and handle the genuines all day and every once in awhile I see the fakes. Too me when you handle them they just feel wrong, you know?

I'm not trying to dissuade you but don't want you getting burned with a watch that you can't resell and don't want.

I would also suggest you be very careful. As br549 points out there are some very good fakes out there nowadays, look at what's been going on with SeaDwellers recently as an example.

I would ask for detailed pictures with the time set to say 3:37 or his email address written on a piece of paper in them, anything to help validate they weren't just stolen from some grey dealer website or eBay, then post them on the forum looking for feedback. If you're not comfortable at any point, walk away.

I personally wouldn't risk payment via wire transfer either.

If it's $1200 it's way too cheap and would set alarm bells ringing in my head. I notice it's in the UK...and if it's £1200 then that's bang on the money for a PO.
