Just a question about the Diver Pro Strap w/black steel tang-type buckle.
Does anyone hava an idea how long this rubber strap would last if the watch was worn pretty much every day? I know the rubber strap is replaceable, but can the black steel buckle, which is unique to this model, be fitted on to replace the regular polished steel buckle? I don't know that they would stock replacement specialty rubber straps like this for a Limited Edition.
I had a look at a Blacksteel today, and it really caught my attention. I actually tried it on, and it was very comfortable and looks awesome on the wrist. I really like the looks of it with the Diver Pro Strap, it totally suits the watch, especially with the matching blk steel buckle.
I have a Diver Pro strap on my SuperOcean, and it is very comfortable. My first Breitling was a Colt Quartz from late 80's/early 90's. I just can't remember how long the rubber strap lasted, but it basically just broke apart one day. I know it did last a number of years.
The watch itself looks extremely tough. I would think that it is very scratch-resitant, especially since a couple of owners' comments have been very favourable.
Any input much appreciated.
Cheers,
Carl

Carl,

NICE Choice. I fell in love with the AS blacksteel also and ordered it also but after thinking about it I might just go with the AS also but with the one with the steel case, just because I can use the extra "saved" money for an IWC watch that I am going to get as well, and after visiting my AD the steel case AS looks pretty nice as well.

In terms of your rubber band question the band should last you for a while. They are just as durable as the leather/croc bands as well and wouldnt see longevity as being a probably for the diver pro strap. WORST case though if it does "rip" or whatever the band is only $75 USD which I am sure you can probably get it for much less than that when you do in fact purchase the strap. Good luck and hope this information helps

Kirby,
thank for the reply. I actually sent you a PM about the Blacksteel I saw yesterday. My dilemma is whethere to get it or not. I was really impressed with it when I actually tried it on.
I know I can get the Diver Pro strap anytime. However, the one that comes with the blacksteel actually has the buckle in black steel to match the watch, which it should considering it is a LE. However, I don't know if that strap with that particular buckle will be replacable. A small detail, but it does really make the look of the watch.
Cheers,
Carl

I don't see why ordinary tang type buckle couldn't be replaceable.

Carl,

Good point about the tang buckle. Looking at the guide though it doesnt seem like its replaceable? Only thing listed are the 18k stuff and the steel buckle. I am guessing that the black bucket was only made specifically for the blacksteel, however I am not sure if thats a replaceable item you can get? but then again I dont see why they wouldnt carry some extras you know?

Try something cool,
I got an extra leather strap when I bought my Blacksteel and it looks really nice on it. I dyed the stitches black, so it looks totally black now.
I will post some pictures on the forum soon, but it's a good idea as an alternative to the rubber strap.
Anyway I still like the rubber strap for the comfort and the easy to clean part, specially when you come back from trekking into the Malaysian jungle where I was 2 weeks ago....
Imagine all that sweat under 32 degrees C and 100% humidity... anyway... awsome watch for adventurers, not a scratch, works perfectly, fine under pressure, the perfect going out and get dirty Breitling....

Hey Colsman,
Thanks for your reply. I went back to my AD again today, and tried on the Blacksteel again. Unfortunately, I was in at 5pm, I had got off work early, and they close at 530pm. Anyway, this is the second time I tried it on, and I just don't know exactly why I did not take it. There was a perfectly great watch, a Limited Edition no less, yet something held me back. I think it was mostly the "going out and getting dirty" aspect, and the idea of getting it scratched. I am still really not sure about the finish, is the entire black treatment done throughout the watch, or just a coating. If it is, from what you describe, it is very tough. I reallly do want something that I don't have to baby, I can wear in the gym, at work in the print shop, and not worry about it. Your reply kind of cast aside any doubts I had.
Good idea about the leather strap. I really like the rubber strap on the Blacksteel, and I don't think would need anything else. The clasp is great that it is also in black steel. I found out today that changing the clasp is no difficult task at all.
Well, your reply made me think again. Maybe if it is still there tomorrow I will have a change of heart.
Cheers,
Carl

Carl,

I know what you are feeling I am feeling the same on the blacksteel as well but in the previous PM we had I have decided on still getting the aveneger skyland but the black face with the diver pro. It seems like it would match more in terms of clothing etc, but nonetheless the blacksteel is bad @$$ though...good luck with the decision!
