After I purchased 3 Breitlings and my first Panerai, my wife has gone off the deep end. Against all odds, she has been bitten by the watch bug, and thinks she needs a collection of her own!!!!!!! To that end she has gotten a Colt Oceane, a Ladies Cockpit, and is now asking me what she "needs" for a new addition to her collection. I am doing pretty well to steer her away from "designer" watches, but I need your help. What other quality watch manufacturers make decent ladies watches in the $2-5k price range? As always, thanks for the help!

Would you include Cartier under 'designer' watches? I wouldn't, and for me that is the first brand that comes to mind for ladies' watches in that price range.

At a slightly higher price point, I love the ladies' diver models from JLC and Ulysse Nardin.

That's exactly why I brought this question here! I'm not too up on Cartier as a watch manufacturer. I see them as "form over function" kind of pieces, but that may be because I'm not familiar with their horological pedigree. Are there any other takes on Cartier or any other manufacturers?

Despite the jeweler stigma that some people have of Cartier, they are actually high quality watches with good movements. Some of the higher end mens models have JLC movements made for Cartier. Stay away from the quartz and you have a solid, albeit expensive watch.

Cartier definitely make some nice ladies pieces. Also Ebel, and Zenith to add to the names already provided.
