I am moving to Chicago for work after living in the Philadelphia area for 26 years. While packing up for the big move I stumbled upon what I remember to be my very first watch. My grandmother gave it to me for Christmas when I was in the 6th grade. It was the first of many! I figured for my first post, I'd post my first watch



How about you? Are you as lucky as I am and still have the watch that started it all? Any memories? Post 'em here!

I've had way too many watches to know for sure what was the first one. Probobly a Casio, or a surf watch like a Shark. I can say what watch "started it all". My Tag. I didn't know what automatics were at the time, but was intrigued of the idea of a mechanical watch being charged by ones movement. I bought the watch for this reason only. Looking back if I knew what I know now I would have opt for a better watch in that price range. I bought the Tag for $1000. I should have bought an Oris. Oh well.

Here is my Tag. I havn't worn since my SA purchase. (And probably never will)

Well my first mechanical watch was a hand wind Sekonda (Russian made, sold in the UK) for my 16th birthday. I don't still have it as it didn't last!

Mine was also a Tag 2000 series. I had watches before it obviously but it was my FIRST proper watch.

My first watch was a digital Armitron. I wore that every day from, like, 3rd grade to high school. I have actually always worn digital watches until for christmas 7 years ago my wife got me a gold-tone ESQ watch to wear with my suit (yes, I wore a cheap digital watch even when in formal attire). I still love that ESQ, although it looks so small compared to my Bentleys.

After discovering how much I really liked that ESQ, about 2 years ago I decided I was going to get a really nice high-end watch. Not a Rolex, but one that somebody who actually knew something about watches would identify and appreciate. But, as we know, it's impossible to get just one.

Honestly, if it weren't for cellphones, I might still wear digital watches except for special occasions. I could not live without the functionality. But now I have a cellphone and a PDA, so if I need an alarm, countdown, stopwatch, or phone book I can use these.

I think my first watch other than digital was a movado museum watch that was given to me as a gift. I hated it. No markers and after reading that when the battery went dead I would have to send it to them I thought what a piece of junk. All that money they spent and it was a headache. I knew there was a better way. Then a Seiko eco drive. Still have it. Solar powered.

My first watch was a pretty tiny quartz analogue Timex which I had when I was a whole 7 years old!

After that when I was 10(ish) it was a small blue digital Casio, quickly followed by a black 50m WR Casio which was the watch I'd really wanted from day 1!

I then went through LOADS of watches until I had a two tone Seiko (which I still have, although it doesn't work) for passing my O-Levels/GCSE exams.

So really I've been into watches since pretty early childhood, but my first really "proper" watch came in about 1995(ish) when Goldeneye came out at the cinema, and like millions of others I decided I NEEDED an Omega SMP! Never looked back.

wow this thread bring back memories. I got a handwinded watch when I was 7 as a present from my dad when starting school. It looked almost like the Rolex ladies Oyster, was probobly a copy of it as it was NOT a Rolex

Anyhow, I wore it for a few days and loved it. But then I got into a fight (yea i know silly) and broke the watch. May dad took it to the watchmaker and fixed it. A week later I "fell" and the watch broke again.... not wanting to tell my dad that I had broken it again, I wanted to take it apart and fix it myself. Obviusly I couldnt get the caseback opened, so I ended up opening it with a hammer..... and in that moment my Mom walks into the room seing me going crazy with the hammer on the brand new watch I got as a present....... You can immagine why I so clearly remember all the details still today

as a 7 year old I already attempted to open my first watch the next one was a plastic Casio.....

Plastic Casio in the early 80's.

Timex in the mid 60's. I still have it and it still runs.

*This* brings back memories. I broke SO many watches when I was a kid. Ohhh the carnage... I was always rough on things (shoe's would last 2 months, tops) and I refused to wear the watch on my non-dominant wrist. As a result I was constantly bumping, scraping, and generally abusing those poor watches.

No idea of the very first (for some reason I have a casio in mind but no idea why ) but my first 'serious' watch would be a citizen; the first to help me realise that I had a somewhat serious interest in time pieces anyway.

My very first watch i can remember today.......it was an Ingersol...no model number or anything flashy like that....my mother bought it to make me learn to tell the time......i was ten years old........1952
After that was a Seiko which went on for years..the one everyone had with the two prominent button on top of the case........when that went boom i got another Seiko that lasted for years too.........then in 1998 i bought a watch in Spain that did it all it was a Multi Chrono Lotus that went until 2008 then it just wore out, if it hadn't i would probably be still wearing it. Then my wife bought another Seiko.....followed by a Raymond Weil all gold Tango which i still have both. I got another Seiko pilots watch from an online jeweller until i have just bought for my retirement a Breitling SA (563). ....i wont be buying any more watches all good things come to an end......but i do enjoy the banter in this forum and also the habit of looking in every watch shop window i see..........sad or what????? :yeah that
