Going out on a limb here, but with such a snide and fairly defensive remark, perhaps he was the one wearing a fake? Not saying he was, but that is quite a strange way to respond to a compliment. Either that or he is just a plenary jerk off...

I don't want to highjack this thread however I have a quick question. What if someone you meet or know thinks they actually have a real one but you can tell it is fake because there are ton of red flags? This happened to me the other day. This guy I know was showing off a watch his brother gave him for christmas and it was a clear fake. What do you say or do? I just said, "Wow that is sweet" and just went on my way. What would you have done?

I'd taken him aside, give him a chronolog and just ask "sorry, I don't know that model, can you please show me which one?" If he thinks it is real, he either needs to straighten something out with his brother or his brother needs to get his money back.

That happened to me with a few months back actually. My buddie was all excited that his mother bought him a Breitling after coming home from deployment. When he showed it to me I was like ohhhhh yeaaahhhh. It was a fake, a terrible one at that, it took me a few days to break his heart and tell him the truth. I felt like an @$$.

It was a Superocean Chrono on an SS bracelet. Funny reading some of the comments. After it happened, I thought some of the things said, especially the Zirotti comment. I wish I back handed him with my watch hand and left the bezel imprint on his cheek or forehead, numbers and all!
