One morning, all your watches are missing. You realise that you need 3 watches for all occasions. It has to be 3 different brands, new (still in production) and you have to pay for them yourself.

Which brands will you choose?

I went for JLC, Omega ( ) and Rolex (  )

My basic reasoning was simply that these manufacturers currently produce 3 watches that I really REALLY want. JLC make the Master Compressor Extreme World Chronograph, Omega make the Ploprof 1200, and Rolex make the SeaDweller Deapsea. If my current collection vanished, these are the 3 I'd buy without hesitation.

Well using the same criteria as Driver8, I selected Omega and Others.

Others would be two different makes, hence why I only provided two options.

My votes were Breitling, Rolex and IWC.

Breitling because I love the brand, it represents my first foray into luxury watches and because there are very good personal memories attached. A Navitimer would be the model; I'll always have a Breitling in the collection.

IWC because that's my next big purchase- currently I'm looking at a Portuguese. I also like the brand a lot.

Rolex becuase one day I'd like to own a DSSD. A good size for me and a great watch!

I went with Breitling (SA), Rolex (SD DS) and IWC (Big Pilot's Watch). I currently own the first one and the other two are on my wish list.

Mine would be:

Breitling, Panerai (sorry Roff!), and Zenith.

Omega, IWC and Panerai.

JLC was unlucky to miss out, but I think if I hadn't have something from the other 3 I would really miss them.

I ignored 'other' because that opens up too many possibilities for my head to deal with on a Friday morning.

1) Breitling -- still the brand that "sings" to me most
2) Rolex -- DSSD
3) Pam -- looking at lots of straps lately, so maybe a basic Pam w large selection of straps (hey, straps r IMPORTANT part of a watch, no?)

I went with
- Seiko (note the OP says "you have to pay for them yourself" )
- Breitling = all occasions
- Omega = all occasions + SCUBA diving

By the way, I was surprized to see Breitling only has 29% of the vote. Although the highest portion, still I would have expected slightly higher then that...

I think 2 years ago, or even 1 year ago, you probably would've found that Breitling would've been up there with probably 70 or 80%. Over the last couple of years though, the appeal of this forum has broadened quite a bit with lots of existing watch fans joining up, and also lots of long term members have also broadened their collections and interest.
