Has anyone here has appraisals done for insurance purposes? If so, how much did you pay? A lot of the jewelers/ad's I've talked to want to charge $150 per watch, which seems ridiculous. Have you successfully been able to negotiate?

My AD does mine for free, even watches I didn't buy from there. I have bought 4 of my watches from them and each time they provide me with an appraisal for them at no additional charge.

Yeah, I have a couple of people who will do appraisals for free if I need them. In most cases though my insurance company trusts me with watch valuations as I have a good relationship with them and they know that I have a track record with watches. They sometimes ask for purchase price, or will ask for an assessment if I am putting a valuation on that is significantly higher than I paid, but don't pay for them.

I have had some jewellery appraised that I had to pay for, it was a couple of years ago but I think it was something like $25 + 1% of the value or something like that.

That seems pretty ridiculous, especially if they carry the brand since they already have access to the replacement costs.
