Hey, I've heard a lot about the Cape Cod Cloths and how good they work with polishing watches, but what I want to know is: How exactly do they work? (Sorta the "science behind it").

They are impregnated with a polishing compound that restores a fine finish by removing microscopic amounts of metal.

So, over time, you can completely wear down a watch by just using the cloth?

In theory, yes. But I think you would need a really long polishing session to do that. Something like years...

How often do you guys polish your everyday watches? I've had my SA since Dec. 10th and worn it every day since then. I picked up Cape Cod cloths the following week, but haven't tried them out yet.
I've picked up fair share of "desk diving" scratches...

My answer would be "when it needs it". That's not meant to sound flippant or anything - it's just that I guess it depends entirely on your tolerance of scratches and scuffs. If you wear a watch daily, and aren't overly careful, then your watch will pick up scratches, and if that bothers you, then you could easily be using the Cods weekly. Some (very weird ) people see scratches as "badges of honour", and never polish their watches. It takes all sorts!

Personally, I don't like scratches but I rotate my watches and I am quite careful with them anyway so I don't need to use the Cods very often. I've not needed to use them in about 3 or 4 months.

I finally found a local store that sells the cape cods and they cost the same as online. Ive been using them since I got my first B, but to be honest, they leave a lot to be desired. I find that they do a decent job, but in no way make the watch look like new. The majority of the scuffs seem to remain, albeit theyre a bit shinier I also have a hard time doing the bracelet since I try to avoid the underside. I lay it flat on a towel and go to work on it, but it just seems like im inefficient.

Really? I've found them to be superb. Granted they are quite gentle, so good results can take a lot of elbow grease, but if you spend long enough on it I've found that most types of regular scratch can be removed. I once used Cods to removed a really nasty and quite deep scratch that an AD managed to put on the underside of one of my watch's lugs as a result of a very clumsy strap removal. 40 mins of Cape Codding and it was totally gone.

So do you clean all of your watches at once? I just imagine you every so often going on a cape cod cloth cleaning frenzy. A WIS equivelent of "sitting down with a good book and cup of hot cocoa".

Just how long would a session like that take?!

No, I just use them when I see a scratch that's enough to bother me. I don't use them on a regular basis. For general cleaning it's more mild soap and water for me........ and then it can be a WIS-fest for an hour!

I'd agree on the 'elbow grease' comment. I had the cods out for a while last week when removing a scratch on my case and also on two of the lugs from clumsy strap changes. It did take a while. That was however the 1st time I'd done this in a year so what did I expect
