I read about the Australian situation at the time and I couldn't understand why he was doing what he was doing. No doubt he can be sexist (as many chefs are), but it seemed as if he was just digging himself a deeper hole each time he opened his mouth. I think anyone in that business - much like any other entertainment business, sort of - is probably deeply flawed in one way or another and sometimes those flaws surface. Either way, I'd love to sit down to a meal with the guy.
Definitely a case of chronic foot-in-mouth in this instance. Even our PM called him an idiot (not exact words but you get the drift

). To be fair he's been pretty quiet since then. While visiting Sydney late this yearhe tried to make a joke out of the whole thing, which I don't think went down that well as his approach was more along the lines of 'I can't understand why what I said was so awful' as opposed to 'I'm sorry for what said'.
Anyway all good. Far better to focus on his cooking.
