Hi there - a quick newbie question.

I'm looking to remove one of the links from the bracelet of my Chrono Colt Quartz and I'm assuming it's as simple as unscrewing the screw of the link in question on the side of the bracelet?

If so, does anyone know the correct size screw driver needed and is there anything I should be careful of? (It's on the 18mm Fighter bracelet if that makes a difference)

I appreciate this is a dumb question - I just doen't want to amke an expensive mistake on my new purchase.......

Can you please provide a direct link ? In the webshops i can only find 1.60 and 2.00. Cant find 180 anywhere.

Yes sorry - wrote that in a hurry - 1.8mm.

Not sure if they sell them individually or only in sets. Preferred online vendor is www.watchtool.co.uk. If they don't sell individually then buy a 160 (1.6mm) and go carefully.

Ok, thanks for info, so what you say is that you can use 1.6mm but 1.8mm is preferred?

I read something about loctite in another post, do you always use loctite when you screw your watches together again?
Is this also for preventing corrosion on the threads? I saw mine had started to corrode on a brand new watch.

Never needed to remove links personally, but Loctite is used (can't remember which colour - sorry) to avoid the screws backing up. I've not heard of any corrosion issues, always assumed that the screws were stainless.

ok, i am almost certain i saw my screws had started to show signs of corrosion when i unscrewed them last time.

It looks like 1.8 is almost impossible to find unless you want to buy an expensive set of screwdrivers.

Can anyone please confirm that you can use 1.6mm before i order?

You can use 1.6mm - it's juist one size smaller. Just be very careful not to damage the head as it's not going to be as good a fit.

I think you are referring to the thread lock that Breitling uses. It looks a little brown in colour when you remove a screw. It's not corrosion, it's just the colour of the thread lock I think.

Watch screwdrivers is not an area to go cheap. I've got a few pieces that have some evidence of cheap tool abuse - it's not pretty!!!

Hey Roff, what are good brands to buy for watchmaker screwdrivers. is AF swiss made a good brand? looks like you can get an 9p set for about $60..

A&F is 'OK'. If it were my money I would be buying Bergeon (and did) or Horotec - they'll last you forever, replacement ends are readily available, and the quality is unbeatable. Further, I would buy the good ones with the bearing ends - they are silky smooth.

Are they cheap - no, but they are unbeatable.

I have the Bergeon 6899-A10 set for my watchmaking - the one in the wooden box, I don't like the base version, it's an extra hundred bucks, it clutters up the bench and it encourages dust.
