I was looking through the bracelet section of the BreitlingSource forum and looked at the detailed pics of the Ocean Racer Clasp. I was shocked to see that the new clasp on the Omega Ploprof 1200 is a total rip off of the ocean Racer clasp!!! I was so impressed with Omegas new clasp and think it is one of the best in the buisiness, but I now see they owe their success to Breitling.

I guess Omega weren't able to make it to quite the same level of refinement as Breitling though so they had to make it about 3 inches thick :lol:

LOL! Actually the thickness is a good match for the mesh and balances well with the watch itself. If it were thinner it wouldn't look right IMHO.

Oh, and to Omega's credit, they did add a flip divers extension in addition to the sliding micro adjustment.

The Ploprof clasp IS an absolute monster, but never seemed anything less than perfect for the watch when I tried it on.

Yeah I agree - it is completely in keeping with the bracelet (haven't seen it in the flesh with the rubber yet), but it sure is big!

I've had a few drains on the old funds lately, and now I'm looking at a few mechanical (and no doubt highly expensive) repairs to the Beemer :roll: , so we'll see about the Ploprof in the new year. :thumbsup:

Our experience with a '99 323i was just that... a money drain. The most unreliable car we have ever owned. I hope yours treats you better than ours did.

:lol: To be fair, I've owned 6 (I think) in a row now, and I've never had anything major go with them at all. In my experience they've been the MOST reliable cars I've ever owned. The problem with my current one is that I've really racked up the mileage in it over the last couple of years for one reason or another, and unfortunately things are just starting to wear out due to wear and tear. :( I'm looking at new wheel bearings, a new clutch, a new exhaust, new disks all round, and it also needs one or two of the dreaded electrical gremlins sorting out. Could be blank cheque time! I'm seriously thinking about chopping it in. Might work out cheaper in the long run!

Your experience is the reason we bought one. Prior to owning it, everyone we talked to that had one raved about it. Then oddly enough, after we had ours and started to complain of the poor reliability, everyone we spoke to had similar experiences!?! It was like there was a conspiracy to cover up the problems and get us to buy one, then the truth came out LOL. The electrical gremlins were by far the worst, we had a few that were never sorted after several trips to the stealership. To add insult to injury, the value was terrible when we fianlly gave it up. My Nissan Pathfinder, same age, same milage, paid $15K less for it, was worth $5K more at trade in time. I now drive a VW Touareg and despite the questionable reliability ratings, mine has been perfect and phenominal. Maybe I am the oxy-moron of car ownership. LOL!

I will admit though that when things DO go wrong they can be horribly expensive to get fixed. And while (at least in experience) they are mechanically very tough indeed, if there is one thing that can afflict Beemers of a certain age, it's electrical faults. Years ago I had a 740i Sport that allegedly had more computing power than the Apollo 11 spacecraft (although I guess that was little more than an oil-drum anway! :lol: ), and while it was 100% reliable when I owned it, the very day I decided to change it, the dash lit up like a Christmas tree with just about every warning light coming on! Definitely not what you need while driving (dead on the speed limit, officer) on the motorway! Turned out it was just an electrical fault, but I let the dealership worry about that after I traded it in! :lol:

I just love we get off on tangents on this forum! LOL. So much fun.

One thing that nobody can dispute, nothing drives like a german car (when they work). Even my 5000 lb VW drives like a sports car on stilts, especially in winter.

The Germans really need to hire some Japanese engineers to sort out the electrical systems, and leave the driving dynamics to the Germans.

:lol: Yeah I did feel bad going total off-topic here, but then I realised it was your thread anyway and you were just as bad! :lol:

And yes I completely agree about the handling. That 740 Sport of mine was well over 2 tons in weight and yet it handled like something much much smaller. I'm now looking at the BMW website at the time as here! :lol:
