Good that you got away relatively unhurt.

I think that you will get your watch back, if you do, just send it to Breitling and they will fix it up as new.

Got a Emergency Mission myself and I am a pilot so it is reassuring to hear this story from you.

Get well soon.

This is interesting. It is interesting to hear you had approval to activate the ELT in the E. If you made a hard landing, I presume this means you were on a runway, which means the commander will have declared mayday/panpan, which means they already knew you were coming. Out of interest, who gave approval to you?

Glad to hear you are in the minor injuries group, and likewise glad to hear the E works a treat!

They tried to find an alternative landing location but were unsuccessful...and the A/C gave the approval ;)

ahh that makes sense, i assumed you were shortening aircraft, my mistake.

Well I wouldn't have hesitated to pull it either. I'm contemplating an E at the moment, and this is just further encouragement.

I'm re-reading the post, it makes more sense second time round!

Glad you're OK and the Emergency did it's job.

Obviously wished that it hadn't happened for all concerned, but it's great to hear that the EM did it's job. Also glad that no one was more seriously hurt and wish a speedy recovery to all.

Breitling will replace your watch for you free of charge - it's part of the deal when the watch is used for a legitimate aeronautical emergency.

Great story and glad everyone made it out alive. I own an Emergency myself and wanted to know and few things. Did you leave it on your wrist or hang it somewhere for a better signal. Did you release both signal wires and what did you do with the watch at that point. This is information that could help any of us when using the Emergency. Thank you and also welcome to the forum.

Some of you have PMed me and said Breitling would replace the watch for free. I unfortunately dont think that is an option because I will not be able to give them any specific details about what happened... (the who, what, when, where and why) -- Also the AIB currently has my, possibly smashed watch ... This information could never be used as a "propaganda" or "publicity" tool for Breitling.. as much as I love their products I cant have this story printed in next years catalogue or such... I might give them a call and see exactly what their stance is but I am guessing if they do replace the watch it would be under the terms that they could use my story for publicity's sake... Maybe they do have some discretion...

I think that you will be surprised. Breitling has a long history of working with the military. Their advertising for the Emergency (as it relates to usage) is generally restricted to 'involved in x rescues' or 'played a part in rescuing y people'.

Please dont read this the wrong way but how would I even begin that conversation? Call their 1800 number and tell them I was in a crash in a "sensitive" country and cant give them "specific significant details." In today's world I would not be surprised if I got hung up of after that...

Oh yea -- I currently DONT have my watch but know where it MIGHT be... oh yea it probably was bashed in by a M-4...

Dont get me wrong on this gentlemen. I am truly blessed to have survived such an event, if Breitling has the ability to accommodate my situation that would be amazing but I am kind of skeptical... I will have another Emergency on my wrist (hell maybe on both wrists) at any rate

I could record the conversation and you guys could hear their response and/or laughter...

Does Breitling have a department that handles this sort of stuff?

When you purchase an Emergency / Emergency Mission you have to register it with Breitling. If you contact Breitling USA either directly or through an AD they will be able to validate that you are an owner of an EM and I am sure that they have established processes that will kick in.

I'm sure it will work out for you. A freind of mine was in a similar situation a few years back and his was serviced and repaired free of charge. I havn't seen him in quite a while because he moved with his parents after the incident. Unfortunatly he survived, but was severely injured when the craft was shot down. Anyway thank god you are allright. No matter what their decision will be today that is what matters as i'm sure you already know. Thankyou for everything you do protecting our country.
