Got a chance to get some very good deals - not sure what models yet (won't be able to get there until the end of the month) but I believe that they have at least some in house movements (137, 139, 245) and wondered if anyone had ever owned one - some of the 1911s look pretty good, and I suspect that my dearly beloved may also find one or two that she likes.

I've not owned one, but I did get to handle/inspect/wear an Ebel Tekton at an AD event last year. This one in fact -

While I admit the picture doesn't do it justice, in the flesh it's actually very smart indeed. The finish on it is first rate, with lots of brushed and poished surfaces, and a nice sapphire DB too : I was very impressed with it. This one has an house movement (139) with quite a unique chronograph configuration, and is a very good size (48mm diameter) without being too overpowering in height. I'd happily wear one...... if only I could get past the fact that historcially Ebel have always generally been geared more towards womens watches.

That's why I think that I can get the deal - trying to overcome perception. I am told that there are some LEs available so I'm hoping for a tekton or two included - just can't get there for a couple of weeks.

Those look pretty slick. Kind of techno-tool watch.

My father has had the Ebel Classic Gent watch for many many years with the stainless steel and 18k yellow gold combination. He chose a quartz movement but there is an automatic option available in the XL. It's a formal wear watch which I've always admired, just simple and elegant.
The only time in memory that it has spent time away was when one of the gold screws fell off (after about 15 years of wear) and the usual battery change as it's a quartz; otherwise the quality has maintained a very high standard.

I agree with D8 in that I think a lot of the Ebel watches in the past have looked feminine, however that appears to have changed, particularly with the 1911 series as you mentioned. I say go for it Roff. I like the brand and I'm certainly open to owning one in the future.

It'll be interesting if there is a Tekton or two in there as they seem quite hard to come by, even a year or after they were released. As I say I tried one on at my AD's event last November, and since then they've not had a single Tekton in stock there as far as I know. I chatted to the Ebel rep at the event and he said that they had difficulty ramping up the factory to produce 139's at a fastest enough rate to make them widely available. Truth or marketing spin to make it more appealing?....... I'll let you decide, but I definitely haven't seen many (any) about.

Yeah, I was under the impression that they were fairly hard to come by, but I know for a fact that there are some men's LEs. The BTRs are quite nice too - I'll just need to try them on and see. It's not a watch that was on my radar at all until this opportunity came up, but it does kinda scratch my itch for an 'unusual' watch right now.

We shall see....

Tried on a couple yesterday. They only had one from the 1911 range - a LE of 250, but with a DLC coating so that wasn't going to work - I don't need another black case watch. Price was good - $12,900 list down to $6,450, but the list price is way too high anyway.
