I am wanting to buy my fiancé a Brietling as an engagement present. He was looking to buy himself one recently and had tried a couple on, the super avenger and i think it was a blackbird but as of yet he hasn’t really taken the time to look into the options to find out which he really wants.

Not being a watch person, I am not sure whether it is a good idea to go out and speak to the shop assistant to help me choose one so I can surprise him or to take my fiancé with me to choose the watch himself. (I would prefer to surprise him)

Didn’t know if people could give me their opinion on which ones might be best to look at and consider based on the following. It will be his first Breitling, I know a couple of his friends already have Brietlings and I know that he would want something to impress. He is quite a sporty guy, but is looking for a watch he can wear with his suit as well as on a daily basis and to go out with (so really one for all occassions).

Thanks

Wow arent you a good catch for a fiance  I wish there would be more of you out there.....

I think both watches are great. But I agree, I think you should make it a surprise. Take him out one day and let him try on a few, you will notice which one he falls for when he is wearing it....

have your dealer give you a catalog and tell him you found it on a bench at the mall and it wont take him long to show you what he likes.

where do you live? somebody may know a dealer who would let you buy one and exchange it as long as its unworn too.

Welcome to the forum and you have come to the right place for help. All of us members will help you set your man up with the "Right" first Breitling. The catalog is a great first start, then go shopping at one of your malls that carry Breitling and convince him to try a few on "just for fun". After a few fall across his wrist you will know when the "right one" hits as you will see that glow in his eyes (we all here know that glow, don't we men). Then finish up with some small talk with the sales person and then come right back here with the info. We will give you a good idea on how much you will need pay and maybe were to go to get the best price. Then you must keep us updated on what happened and tell him he is now forever HOOKED on Breitlings and he must join the forum. Then down the road you will need your very own Breitling like alot of our lovely wifes do. Anything you need we will try and help you out! Good luck, Rick :lingsrock:

Well my usual advice would be that he would need to try them on and see which one 'speaks' to him, but on this occasion I think that there is a lot to be said for the surprise factor. Honestly, the watch will be a gift from you so that will make it incredibly special and the specific model is less relevant.

For an all round watch the Windrider and Aeromarine ranges are probably a good place to start (Blackbird is from the Windrider range, Super Avenger is from Aeromarine). The Professional range is also worth a look if you don't mind quartz (battery) watches - only one of the Professionals is an automatic (Skyracer).

Breitling has a section on their website (www.breitling.com) where you can look at different colour combos, bracelets, straps, etc so that will help you (it's called the configurator) and as others have suggested, you can get a catalogue from the local store.

I would suggest seeing them in person - the Super Avenger is a big watch and you need to be sure that it's not too big - both height and diameter.

From what you say, and if you do want to surprise him, the Blackbird - from the Windrider line - might be the way to do. It is a very special model. As a matter of fact, it is called often referred to as a Special Edition. Here is a link to a very good video on YouTube, done by the Breitlingsource.com Administator himself.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGkdfLvFBVY

The one in the video also has a special stainless steel Pilot bracelet, that is made specifically for the Blackbird model. You might want to research it on the Breitling website as well. It is not too large that it should be a problem to wear just about anywhere, and the finish on the watch is very nice indeed.
I hope this helps. I would certainly take everyone's advice and spend some time browsing Breitling's website.
Can't wait to hear the outcome!
Cheers,
Carl

My bet would be a blackbird as well ! a couple of reasons.

first, the blackbird model offers a bit of novelty and is not very common. Also, chronomat evo is considered by most as the flagship model of breitling, blackbird is a sexier extension of the same getting your fiance bragging rights for months !!

second, the big date window, windrider dial layout and like carlhaluss mentioned the size is very agreeable with most folks !
