Once again, I would like to say how grateful I am to all of you: To the founder of this forum, and to all who have answered my endless questions, and given advice through the last months.
I am now the extremely proud owner of a SuperOcean Steelfish, with black dial and brushed steel bracelet. From my last post "Trip Report: Visit to my AD today", my choices were: Bentley 6.75, Blackbird and Steelfish. The Bentley was just not the type of watch for my lifestyle and work, but one of the most beautiful. So, it was between the Blackbird and the Steelfish. I love the Blackbird, especially because of it's many unique features. However, I would never use the chronograph functions, and it just did not have the look and feel that the Steelfish does. Plus, it is almost 4 grand more. I also found out yesterday that I have to have many grand worth of dental work done, so that really clinched the decision to go for the Steelfish.
Believe me, even the best photos do not do this wonder timepiece justice at all! The attention to detail on the dial is amazing, the strap is the perfect width, and nice and thick (they really did an amazing job on the Pro II). The size is perfect for my wrist, and it has a wonderful solid feel to it.
I could go on and on. I don't have a camera, but all I can say is again photos don't do this beauty proud.
Being the sentimental guy I am, I almost didn't go to the AD today. I was at work, and as usual wearing my 10-year-old SuperOcean. It still looks great, and has never let me down. I didnt know how I could part with it as a trade. The best part of the story is, my AD gave me such a good discount on the Steelfish, that there would only have been about 200 bucks difference, so I kept the SuperOcean as well! So I was able to get a new watch, and leave without a tear in my eye! I now have quite a nice collection:
SuperOcean (1997) Black Dial, Black rubber strap (new)
Tudor Prince Oysterdate, Ranger II (early 80's) automatice, original steel bracelet
Raymond Weil (2004) Don Giovanni with Stainless bracelet, silver guilloche dial and silver hands
Tissot Le Locle 2007, Stainless the Strap, automatic, silver dial, exhibition back
2008 SuperOcean Steelfish
At the moment, I can't imagine wearing anything but my new Steelfish. I am smitten!
Here's to many happy years wear ahead!
Cheers,
Carl

Great choice there Carl! I've got the exact same one myself and I love it to bits! Hope you enjoy it as much as you've obviously loved your old Superocean.

Grats on the new watch, I have the same one and I LOVE IT! But be careful, I bought it because of it's simple beauty, thinking I wouldn't want or need any chronos, but alas, I have three B's now, the bug bit me, so watch out.

Congratulations Carl. I too was SWAYED.....I mean helped along by this forum in purchasing my Steelfish. Can't stop looking at every day. The loneliest hours of my life are when I take it off to go to bed until I strap it on first thing in the morning. MAN I NEED HELP!

I agree 100% with posters above. When I strapped on my new SO Steelfish I looked at my wife and said "This is going to be an expensive addiction."

Well done, sir! It really is a great feeling putting on a brand new Breitling. I too like a clean and easy to read dial, and am at odds about the chronograph function when looking at a new purchase. I rarely ever use them. It's one of those things that Breitling is famous for though.

Best of luck on the dental work. :lingsrock:

I'm a recent fish owner as well, I agree wholeheartedly with the way you feel about the new 'Ling. Mine is blue and I love it too. Like I've suggested we should start a Steelfish club! ;-)
At the least we need a Steelfish banner.

Actually I'm thinking about creating a series of banners for all the more popular models... it just might take a bit of work and a big chunk of continous time so I can sit down and do it :)

Another one who needs help! Most people I know just shake their heads at me. I had a really baaad day at work today, but having that Steelfish on my wrist to gaze at every so often really helped. My SuperOcean has done that for me for 10 years as well. I don't have much jewellery, a couple of rings, no car, I rent a room, but I gotta have that Breitling on my wrist. It's not even a status thing, or I probably would have gone for a model which doesn't suit my lifestyle as well. It is the one "must have" for me. I have a couple of other watches, but really don't feel as good about them as the Breitling. I actually had tears in my eyes yesterday, before I left work to pick up the Steelfish, thinking how I might give up my SuperOcean for a trade. It's my old buddy. As it turns out, I still have it as well, and will give me many more years of great service. I guess I need help too!
As TxKarate Dude says: "Life is too short to have a crappy watch." It is so
true, and very much a part of my "banquet" of life.
Cheers,
Carl
