Recently, I ordered a total refinishing kit. For some reason, my SA wasn't getting my attention any more and it needed a change.

As you know, the SA comes with a high polish finish. I have refinished it to now have a brushed/satin finish on both the case and the bracelet. The beauty of this kit is that I can go back and fourth between high polish and satin any time I want to. Right now, the satin finish is beautiful. It looks just like my Rolex Submariner finish.

Has anyone else tried this?

You need to be very careful though, as repeatedly doing this will end up changing the curvature of the case and its angles.

Getting the watch to a satin (brushed finish) is the simple part, i would be very careful trying to re-polish the watch case and bracelet!!

I've already brought it back to polished and back to satin again. No sweat. I am careful around the corners and edges to avoid reshaping. I plan on leaving it brushed until I get bored with it...

What does this do to the life of the bracelet? I would think all the polishing and refinishing it would shorten the life of even the bracelet.

Well, every time a watch is polished you are actually removing a small amount of metal. Going from brushed to polished to brushed to polished is going to significantly increase the amount of metal being removed. And as RJRJRJ said, you have to be very careful that you don't change the case profile accidentally.

Personally I'd consider this a one-time thing. In other words if you want it brushed, then brush it and then leave it. But that's just my opinion : at the end of the day it's your watch. :)

I think brushed looks really good. The polished looks awesome when you first get it but after a couple of months i think it looks terrible. To much maintenance for a bracelet. Just my thoughts alone

+1

I would never even consider doing something like that, fearing that I'd screw it up.

If you set a scotch- brite pad on a flat service and run the bracelet over it in a straight line all your brush marks will be going in the same direction! Always make sure you go the same direction across the pad and do the same with the case and you want have a bunch of brush marks going in every direction. If you want to keep some of it polished just cover it with masking tape!!Here is picture of an Oris that i brushed...

:yeahthat

I'm afraid the job done on the SA is no good - the brushing needs to be in the same direction! The SA looks like a kid's colouring in with a texta...it goes every which way.

For a watch that costs so much you really should get a pro to do it.
