Sorry if this has been talked about alread - I saw it mentioned with the SOH 46.. and of course the B01 has it as well.. but Breitling appears to be definately incorporating the Swiss Made designation back onto their dials. The new Cosmonaute also has this:

http://blog.breitlingsource.com/2009/10 ... d-edition/

To me, this is a good thing. Not that it was ever in doubt, but Breitling's dials are so cluttered already, what's a couple of extra reassuring words gonna hurt? :)

Some may want to correct that to 'highly detailed' :lol:

I wonder if they're going back to the Swiss Made inscription to reassure those who just go out to buy a 'shiny watch' For those that just don't know then they might buy the Omega, Rolex, etc over the Breitling

I’d say you’re right about that – and it’s not a bad thing.

I remember an idiot at a bar one time (wearing a giant POS fashion watch) authoritatively commenting on my Bentley GT that “I don’t know if that’s really Swiss mate, all Swiss watches say so on the dial”.

My retort was “yeah, I think you’re right – I can tell you’re a real expert on watches. I got it from the same place you got yours from…the 7-11.”

It does seem a sensible move. There are these persistent myths that Breitling didn't use Swiss Made because things were made / assembled / sourced from Asia so this will help put those to rest.

A little Trivia: Anyone remember when exactly they stopped putting Swiss Made on their dials? :D

For info, a watch may carry the indications "Swiss Made" only if
* its movement is Swiss;
* its movement is cased up in Switzerland;
* and the manufacturer carries out the final inspection in Switzerland..

A movement is considered to be Swiss if:
* it has been assembled in Switzerland;
* it has been inspected by the manufacturer in Switzerland; and
* the components of Swiss manufacture account for at least 50 percent of the total value, without taking into account the cost of assembly.

(source: Fédération de l'industrie horlogère suisse)

If my interpretation of this is correct, a watch could have 50% of the movement and all the other parts (case, crystal, strap etc) manufactured outside of Switzerland and still have "Swiss Made" on the dial.

Maybe Breitling felt the term did not reflect the fact the status that their watches are, afaik, 100% of Swiss manufacture so did not put it on the dials. Big mistake in my view as your average Joe does attach considerable value to these two little words.

This is an area where I just can't understand why they removed it for a few years. I hate to let my mind wander to the 'what if' area, but it does. It bugs the crap out of me that my Aerospace does not have those two little words on it, yet my $60 Zodiac does... :roll:

Hi All!

Excuse me but if we look & read our Breitling casebacks it plainly states Swiss Made i.e. "Manufacture En Suisse......."

Just my observation

Best Regards,

Enezdez

Not always.

Most models have it even if not on the dial, but it's by no means universal.

That's a great bit of info Sharky! :thumbsup:

I had a PM from a guy a little while back asking about this and while I was broadly correct (more by luck than judgement!) this is really useful info. Great find!

That's tricky. I had a 2000 Colt Ocean that had it on the dial, and have a 2000 Headwind that doesn't.
Both have "Manufacture en Suisse" written on the caseback.

The Pluton doesn't have it either on the dial or the caseback. Maybe because it has a Japanese-made movement...

I'll admit that when I don't see Swiss Made on the dial, I get suspicious.

I think it is a badge of honor and if it is not there, I wonder "why"?

Glad it is back. :lingsrock:
